He does bare a striking resemblance to many of my family members.

This. If you've the means, load up. Another ongoing concern is the banning of Internet sales. If the prospect looked grim for B&M's it looks downright abysmal now with the expected recession/depression; so don't think of relying on a local store to keep supplying you. Again: load up now.
While the US Senate has yet to take up the House passed Act which seeks to outlaw internet sales, with the pandemic totally tanking the economy, I think it is extremely unlikely that it will be debated now. Doubt any Senator would wish to vote for any measure now which would put an end to any more business enterprises.

That's how we would think. It's not guaranteed that's how they are thinking: their plan might be just that: to destroy businesses—it all depends on what their long-term agenda is. Anyway, this would be veering into an area we've been recently discouraged of exploring in these fora. All I can really say is that, based on analysis of what many legislators and political actors are doing, taking advantage of the current craziness, I wouldn't put it beyond them to sneak anti-tobacco legislation in their next relief bill, and thus, we should be, if we have the means, stocking up—not to the point of hoarding it like some have been doing with toilet paper, maybe, but still preparing for the worst whilst hoping for the best.

Regards Duane's main point, I find it astonishing that the US Government seeks to throttle a source of great amounts of revenue, let alone the rights of the individual to do what one chooses within their own households.

Regards,

Jay.?
Well, it's a money issue, as much as it is a health issue. Estimates of the cost of smoking in economic terms surpasses the revenue it brings in, which is why there's support for restricting smoking and eventually eradicating it all across the political spectrum.

Summing it up--if the tobacco manufacturers are successful in convincing the FDA that tobacco blends are just "variations on a theme" and not significantly different from one another in any terms that are relevant to health, then each blend will cost $3,500 - $22,700 to register; otherwise, if each blend is considered distinct from one another, registering each blend will cost $117,000 to around $466,000.

If I have interpreted this correctly, the industry lawyers have to be very carefully preparing argumentation to the effect that most blends are, according to the FDAs definition, basically the same.

The FDA seems to have a particular prejudice against vaping (which I hope they don't apply to pipe tobacco) and they use this very alarming language in their FAQ [1]:

"(Q) I am a vape shop with hundreds of different e-liquids. Do I need to submit an application for each flavor/ingredient variant or nicotine strength? Can I bundle similar products into one, or just a few, applications?
(A) Each tobacco product application is a unique situation. .... when FDA receives a premarket submission that covers multiple, distinct new tobacco products, we intend to consider information on each product as a separate, individual PMTA. FDA considers each ENDS [electronic cigarettes] product with a differing flavoring variant or nicotine strength to be a different product."

It appears that the FDA is going to essentially destroy the "cottage industry" that is vaping by forcing each vaping formulation (e-liquid) to be registered for a whopping fee. If the FDA goes after the pipe tobacco manufacturers with a similar amount of prejudice it's going to be a bleak situation for the post 2017 blends.

The pipe shops will just have gotten back on their feet, if they can, and wham, a serious portion of their business will be curtailed. For all but the largest retailers this may be the retirement call.

Thanks for the offer. I’d honestly prefer it if you donated them to the COVID Pay it Forward offer/thread.

I just discovered I can have tobacco delivered to the local post office and held for my arrival to pick it up. This fixed my issue of not being able to have anything shipped to work. So, when I got bitten by the bug a couple of weeks ago, I went off the deep end and had everything shipped to the house in Alaska. Right now, I’ve got 75ish blends and about 18 pounds up there waiting on me. I’ve got 8-10 more tins heading this way to me out here in Texas and will start trying them all out that way between now and when I can get home.

Unfortunately, I’m not positive when I’ll be going home. This COVID issue has made that trip exceedingly difficult to arrange.

@Bowie

I hope this didn’t sound ungrateful. That was definitely not my intent. For fear of sounding arrogant I left out that I’m fortunate enough to be working through all of this and have the means to make those purchases. I would certainly appreciate any recommendations. However, if you’re in a generous mood, I’d prefer you take part in the pay it forward campaign as I feel that’s a better use of generosity in these times.

My apologies if it came off as unappreciative.

How does limiting or eliminating internet sales hook into this? Thats the only way i can get my tobaccos because there isnt any places that sell actual pipe tobaccos anywhere near me. Im trying to wrap my head around this (still newer to this stuff) I heard about the possibility of some brands being cut but ALL internet sales worries me worse.

This is funny to me, if the vapers are the target all that's going to happen is the manufacturers are going to sell the same juices just without nicotine and then sell liquid nicotine to add yourself. In the end it's just gonna be us getting screwed.

There are websites that can verify my veteran status. Surely the same could be done for age?
Could easily be faked. The full intent is to cripple tobacco use and limit sales to face to face transactions without digital use. No skyping.

That's a separate issue to prevent underage individuals from easy access to tobacco.
Heck i can buy whisky, liquors and wine online and they can verify my age for sales. Am i missing something? Is there a huge chuck of teens smoking pipes i don't know about? What bill is to limit internet sales?

Other than starting smoking a pipe at 17, probably not that many, bu5 many tobacco blends can be used as roll your own. I've found Sansepolcro to be much better as a cigarette than in a pipe. They are just trying to cut all access off from them.

Our government hasn't got the brains God gave an eggplant.

They push for amazingly asinine regulations and then, once they get them, outright have to blatantly admit they're going to gouge us for other things to make up for lost revenue.

They (the government) have a colossally monumentality stupid spending problem.
