I love how a huge percentage of the world's population carrying de facto movie cameras in their pocket 24/7 has made once-rarely-captured-on-film events like tornadoes and up-close lightning strikes easily "look up-able" for anyone interested in them.

The mysterious part that no one has figured out yet, is how and why that same instant camera availability made other rare events like UFO's, crop circles, sasquatches, Loch Ness monsters, and etc. stop happening.

(Maybe the government will fund a study to answer that question. A billion dollars ought to do it.)

What are crop circles?

Something that if a little Campbellite boy had dared asked his mother if they might, maybe could be made by spooks, haunts, goblins, or aliens —-would have risked her grabbing her stove poker.:)

When Doug Bower and his co-conspirator Dave Chorley first created a representation of a “flying saucer nest” in a wheat field in Wiltshire, England, in 1976, they could not have foreseen that their work would become a cultural phenomenon.

As I get older, the more I understand I was raised in a cult that worshipped facts, science and truth as much as Jesus.

At least I’ve never been the slightest afraid of spooks, goblins, haunts, witches or believed in common fallacies or delusions.

Everybody ought to read these three books, like I had to as a child, and discuss them with other rational people.

My mother had me read those three at home, my preacher had me read them at church, and Miss Charlotte had all of us read them in the seventh grade.

Which, is why they are so cheap today, you know?

There are the fake and then there are the downright spooky. Curiously, nobody, not even Doug and Dave, has ever been taken to court for criminal damage.

A very great deal of forensic research has gone into these things and those deemed genuine share specific detail features. Some replicable lab work has arrived at a theory of counter-rotating plasma vortices, as a basic mechanism, without touching on the reason and method of the pictorial aspects.

I've been curious about these things for about as long as they've been prevalent in modern times. One might have thought that, were human hand involved, egos would have given way to claims to fame and the phenomenon would be substantially over, nine days wonder. It hasn't worked out that way; we must be thirty years in now. A long running enigma.

No need to speculate about any of this crop circle stuff, btw.

The full story and explanation was made into a documentary.

No actors, no special effects, just a camera and 100% reality.

Well... then again, maybe not:

The politically correct term for crop circles is there is no evidence of them being anything but hoaxes, or pranks.

Which is just a cop out for not calling them all bullshit.

I can remember the seventies ritualistic animal mutilation panic.

Bullshit is bullshit, no matter how much it’s debated or studied.

I’ll wait for the moon landing conversation….

There is some kind of human need to believe in sheer bullshit.

What I can’t understand is why my little hillbilly community was so utterly opposed to bullshit.

It probably had to do with Union soldiers taking over and buying up estates of dead rebels after the Civil War.

Almost every little church around there and every little school was founded by the teachings of Dr John Whitaker.

You were encouraged to debate facts, but you were completely forbidden to make up facts.

To even ask or wonder if the moon landings were faked would have been incredibly risky.

The very least that would have happened is your mother would have slapped you so hard you’d see stars. Serious.

On the other hand, we’d debate for hours why some people believed in bullshit like the moon landings were faked.

I got my edition of the World Book Encyclopedia in the fall of 1962 when I was 4 1/2 years old. After that, if I contradicted or questioned one word there,,,,it was bad. Very bad.:)

All I have to say about that is.... "Buzz didn't punch Bart Sibrel hard enough." 😁

If Bart Sibrel’s mother had a firm habit of slapping his face really hard every single time he tried to stray from the one true path of truth he’d not have grown up to believe in bullshit.

Buzz Aldrin was a Korean War combat jet fighter pilot.

Try paying him to lie about the moon landings.

America put a dozen men on the moon, using captured German rocket scientists, and brought all twelve safely home.

If you can’t accept that, it’s your mother’s fault.

I’ve listened to many professionals try to explain the basics. I keep getting more questions then answers. I’ve had debates with family members telling me I’m antiquated. I’ve done a lot of work in landscaping construction. My spirit level and transit explains enough.

It took a lot to finally realize I had a a huge ego in the game.

But this is moving away from the original post.

I don’t know who the authority is , but I would like to see an honest debate.

I started smoking tobacco precisely because of the warnings labels. I notice the bias is very strong on tobacco smoke and there are scientific papers on the benefits of tobacco, especially with respect to the mental diseases.

With all due respect, there are significant differences between hoaxed crop circles and not-hoaxed.

Hoaxed formations generally involve flattening and breaking the crop, using wooden boards and whatnot. The mysterious majority leave the crop bent but alive, interwoven for the most part, with elongated or holed "knee" joints - the elongation can almost be done using microwaves, experiment has shown.

Given the structural complexity of what happens to the crop, let alone the large-scale complex symmetries of the pattern and the rapidity with which these things appear, other explanations than Dougs and Daves after an evening in the pub are required. Despite about 30 summers elapsing, hitherto these explanations have not been forthcoming.

There is the further mystery of batteries discharging rapidly within fresh formations and other such effects.

It's frustrating to the inquiring mind, but it is what it is. Calling bullshit is the peasants option.
