"[T]his Covid-19 virus is extremely dangerous due to it's ability to spread so efficiently.
Other less efficient viruses only spread by person to person physical contact, others spread by droplets in the air from sneezes & coughs, but THIS ONE can also spread by "aerosol mist" which is much smaller than droplets and that's what makes it so efficient & dangerous. Therefore, COVID-19 has potential to kill more people than any other virus we've seen to date, simply because it will infect so many more people.
The percentage who actually die from Covid-19 has still not been reliably determined because they don't have accurate data on how many are actually infected and they also don't know how long a quarantine period is required for the virus to be totally eliminated from the isolated area. Some are speculating it could take up to 60 or 90 days to totally be safe in a quarantined area. THIS MEANS.. you get yourself infected, be prepared to be quarantined for up to 90 days!!!
If you think a surgical mask will save you, THINK AGAIN!
Due to the "spread by aerosol mist" issue, you need to also protect your eyes because the mist can infect you through the moisture in your eyes. If someone sneezes or coughs that mist can travel throughout an entire room and travel much further than the typical "spread by droplets" as ordinary highly contagious viruses do.
In addition to all that protection, if you do not properly remove & correctly handle the mask & eye protection, you also stand to infect yourself.
Another reported danger of this COVID-19 virus, it's potential to be spread to others as an infected person may present no outward noticeable symptoms and still be highly contagious. This how some experts are speculating the virus initially escaped from the virus research laboratory located near the China market where this all began. Lab personnel unwittingly became infected and spread it while not having any outward symptoms. Again, just speculation, going on everything else currently known about COVID-19.
Some useful but not totally complete info from the CDC...
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)
Excerpt from CDC link above...
Person-to-person spread
The virus is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.
* Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet)
* Via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.
These droplets can land in the mouths or noses of people who are nearby or possibly be inhaled into the lungs.
Spread from contact with infected surfaces or objects
It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads.
When does spread happen?
* People are thought to be most contagious when they are most symptomatic (the sickest).
* Some spread might be possible before people show symptoms; there have been reports of this with this new coronavirus, but this is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads. "
