Sometimes it seems like the only thing you guys enjoy more than starting a trend is crapping on another trend, which is itself a trend.
Cosmic, just for the sake of clarity, I did say in my post the Mark provides all SJP for pipe tobacco.

Bigpond, did I crap somewhere? I know I have a problem with pissing in ashtrays, but... Ha ha, the info I gave on perique wasn't to correct anyone. I was just responding to questions and requests. I'm no expert, just a guy who visited the perique factory. I am just as likely to be wrong in the way I remember something, and if wrong, I try to correct my memory. But, I'm getting feeble minded in my entry into curmudgeonhood. I have no super powers to be more right than someone else on this forum. Unless I'm in a mood, then all bets are off, and I get to spend a day arguing with an invisible person on the internets. Ha ha.

Oh, maybe you mean crapping on this Small Batch. I just call them like I see them. There are a lot of blends that I hate the first time I try them. I don't claim to be some taste tester with my pipe smoked with my pinky out. I just tell the truth. Some times these blenders make up a batch of jizz cream covered dog shit, and everyone lines up to tell them how wonderful it is, and how beautiful they look. I'm sure some get tired of stroking these guys down, and maybe they get tired of it as well. If I don't like it, I say so. If it grows on me, maybe it needs to be said. If you want objectivity, this place is full of guys who do a good job of that.
This one is growing on me, but to be perfectly honest, I don't think it's the cow's meow bees knees that some would have us think. It's good, but it's not going to change your life or make you want to smoke only The Beast, which is good considering it's a LTD small batch.

Now, hopefully the blender will appreciate my take on the blend. But, if everyone wants, I guess I can learn to pucker up and plant on right on the blender's brown spot. But, then, I'd just be like the rest. :::sigh:::

Will I try another Small Batch, sure. I love doing this. And, hopefully, people will see my approach as genuine, maybe not. Ha ha, it is the interwebs... your are entitled to your own opinions, right? :puffy:

I did a double take first. I thought this blend was called The Breast.
In any event, I missed it and will hsve to get over that.

I just finished my first bowl of The Beast, in a brand new cob.
I found it warm and spicy. But I think it could have been spicier. At first glance it is an ok blend and perhaps a nice change of pace. I am not unhappy that I got some. I'll jar and smoke this tin maybe add some perique to it, cellar another and send one of to a friend.

Is anyone else having a problem with all of the tops on these Beasts not staying on?
Solution:
1. Heat top in the hottest water you can find out of a tap; takes about ten minutes.

2. Dry thoroughly but quickly.

3. Stretch over top, allow to cool.

Cosmic you can't get the lid on? Jar it.
Finally found the Kentucky today. Cavendish? Is that the toasted dog turd taste that waffs in and out of this stuff:)
When the perique lifts its head up, it's tasty. Mostly I'm getting nuttiness. This shouldn't be labeled as: Other on Tobaccoreviews.com, it should be listed as a Burley. Perique is Burley. This is a burley blend with a spit of red Va. cavendish. I like it. More perique please, thank the Thelemic Gods that I've got my own Rum soaked Perique to lace this crap with.

I was wondering if folks found The Beast easier or harder to source then Straight up English?

Mine just came in the mail. Glad I bought a few tins, I love this stuff!

Scarface, my suggestion is to relax and just enjoy it. Why get all worked up? Either you like the perique or whatever in a blend, or you don't. If you like the blend, it's a good blend. If you don't like it, then move on.

I imagine these companies swap recipes from time to time. Different crops taste different, so they have to alter the recipe, or the casing, or whatever. They tend to be tight lipped about particulars, probably to give themselves some flexibility. Who knows?
This might be a good question for Greg Peases blog. You should send him an email.

I completely dried out a few bowls, and I really have enjoyed picking out those odd burley flavors. Plus, it lessened that rum top note a bit. It seems to work well in a .85 diameter straight Dublin of mine. If I smoke it in a narrow bowl, it just doesn't have room to open up those burleys. The Beast needs room!!!

I packed it in a pipe (for my second) bowl and then went off and attended to various life activities, and came back about a half-hour later to a wonderful smoke.
It has inspired me to begin attempts to make my own Va/Per of sorts. It will not be as good as The Beast, for sure. But it is fun to experiment with.

See, you guys have it all wrong, "good as the beast," and "loved it from the first puff." It's a BEAST!! Fear!! You have to rage against it, fight it, tame that thing!! Either you are subservient to IT, or IT succumbs to your will. Either way, it's not supposed to be easy. Otherwise just name the stuff, Drunken Prom Date or 1040EZ.
