I didnt realize it until recently but one of the professions with the highest suicide rate is farmers. My mind always went to law enforcement.
Well, maybe not just farming, but any profession that makes money off the land is the highest suicide rate. When faced with making a lot of money by turning your back on a family profession, or merely scraping by and remaining loyal to your family... it is a daunting decision. I would not have made my decision that I did if my grandparents were still alive. My sister and mother didn't make my decision any easier. But, in the end, I said fuckall, and did what was smartest.

I watch shows where people are moving from the city to start a farm. It's silly how unrealistic it is. People have no clue, and if someone goes into this with some stupid notions they got from an internet meme, it gets even stupider. This country runs off of blood and oil, from the top to the bottom. You can't go into agriculture or livestock worrying about the fucking butterflies and shit. I mean you can, but you're not going to be able to do it for long.

Off topic: My grandfather, born in 1900 had less than a high school education. He was a coal miner, a house painter and later a farmer. He did have brains, he was well read for his time and had wisdom derived from experience. He also knew the limits of his knowledge. It seems these days people have experience but little wisdom and they are less willing to acknowledge the limits of their knowledge. Those people...my grandfather referred to as fools.

I think he knew what he was talking about.

Name calling and carrying on... That's all it is.

Somebody told you something that you believe. Simple as that.

If by climate change, you mean the weather is changing from day to day, then yes every meteorologist agrees.

But in long term type, we all gone die, climate change... no they don't.
Precisely. No one is arguing that the Earth’s Climate isn’t Changing. Of course it’s changing. It’s been changing in cycles for billions of years and it will continue to do so.

No one is against curtailing man’s ugly, ever growing footprint on our environment. I personally think exponential human population growth is a cancer.

However, the question that divides us is if man’s presence is the cause.

Science is being ignored but not as you think. Science tells us that Earth’s Ice Ages come and go in cycles based upon magnetic and orbital changes far beyond human control.

So while I applaud environmentalists, I simultaneously admonish them for their cause and effect fear tactics to advance their agenda. In other words, the end doesn’t justify the means.

We cannot control the axis and orbit of the Earth by lining the pockets of the fear mongers. Don’t drink that Kool Aid.

Humanity has a duty to be good stewards of our planet.

Humanity must face whatever affects our planet, it’s orbit, it’s moon’s orbit and orbit about the sun deal to us.

Both statements are true.

I think the argument is it changes all of the time, and is not a newfound thing that people discovered 20 years ago but something that's been happening for millennia.
No one is saying that is hasn't been changing. No one is saying that people cause it, in this thread. No one in this thread is suggesting that we should do something about it which is stupid. It's just an undeniable thing. What we are discussing is its impact on agriculture for tobacco... which unless one of you are in that industry, we can only speculate.

But, climate is changing. We went over a month with a drought, the creek on my property completely dried up. That has never happened to this extent in my area.

So, you are arguing that the climate is not changing? at all?

I'm saying that those saying it is, don't know that it is.

They call names. They make false claims, and call them facts.

I personally don't believe the climate is changing. I wouldn't bullshit myself or you and say I could prove that it's not changing. My beliefs are my own, and yours are yours... But that's all they are on something like this.

I think some people are speaking English, and others are speaking American in this thread.

This, I am sure we can agree. Even if we wanted to stop all oil production and go electric... it would take us 150 years. The infrastructure to charge all of those cars does not exist. What are those electric cars mostly made up of... plastic, where do we get plastic.... oil. You cannot make a windmill without oil. Hell, they don't even work without oil. Solar, more oil is used to make a solar panel than a car.
The roads are made of oil, and those tires on those electric cars...
Besides, only about 15% of us could even afford an electric car.

So, that stupid nonsense aside... the climate is changing, has always been changing, nothing we can do about it. So... how does this affect the cost of tobaccos in the future?... as much as it does the price of tea in China. But, the climate is changing.

Despite humans being frightened to face consequences of their own behavior.
Despite humans wanting to illogically fight absolute data
Facts illustrate that crops are strained.
Strained crops generally create inferior product.

I dont know why I bothered to post this on a forum that happily hosted a thread that made fun of and called those with an education stupid.

The Internet: Empowering Stupidity Everywhere.

As a side note. Increased stress by an increase temp and low rainfall do increase nicotine (much like weed and thc). However, that does not speak to the flavor and complexity of flavor.
Well ya gotta read the room haha. There’s a lot of conservative folks here that just aren’t going to see your point of view and that’s just how it is on a forum for pipe and cigar smokers. I share your concerns but I’m never surprised with feedback if some of my opinions.

Well...sometimes I ignore the room lol

I do think its important or at least reasonable to consider that in our search for great blends there are more variables than just a few guys sitting in a room forming a conspiracy to just screw over "Those damn Pipe Smokers". I grew up on a farm and in tobacco coutry as well. People worked hard and they didnt grow crap on purpose.

Im simply saying there are a lot of possiblities outside of the notion of pure profit.

Interesting how the global warming, climate change phenomenon has created so many new products and industries such as LED lighting, solar panels, EV's...............
Solar Panels have been around for a long time. I have them at our house and cabin. They work, but just create a pain in the ass for the homeowners. Something else to keep track of. But, they are a far cry from solving any problems.
EVs... Phhht, check out my rant above.

I keep hearing that LED will replace regular bulbs, but they keep stocking regular lightbulbs right next to them for dirt cheap. I've never bought one.

The difference is that my beliefs are shared by nearly every scientist who has devoted their professional life to studying climate with a combined professional experience of literally millions of years while your beliefs are fed to you by Viacom whose only interest is profit.

I tend to trust knowledgeable professionals with volumes upon volumes of observable, verifiable data to support their conclusions while you seem to trust capitalist grifters who use fear and ignorance to achieve their primary goal of obtaining money and power.

Please do not equate your beliefs with mine because they are not equal in any way.

Also, I am very much looking forward to trying this Cringle Flake 2024 which comes out today.

increased temperatures and drought.
Depends what you mean by drought. There are all kinds of ways that governmental agencies have come up with to determine this, most of which have nothing to do with actual precipitation (like "business interruptions"). Ports are all blocked up because of some regulatory red tape? Boom, drought. You can look this up, it's 100% true, sadly.

if you look up articles on climate change
Why would I do that? Surely there are far less aggravating ways of being lied to.

The climate is changing, but not the way the media says it is.

Assuming that this thread wasn’t started to cause a political discussion and getting back to the original question posed by the OP…

I brought up a popular varietal of grape, Pino Noir, for a reason. Where it’s grown, the climate, the soil the sun all contribute to the end product. The Wine.

Pino Noir, grown outside of France produces a more Fruit Forward wine, think California, due to changes in the plants ability to ripen vs dramatic alternating daily temperatures. French wine of the same varietal is more earthy, leathery.

The same can be said of Cuban Seed Tobacco planted elsewhere.

We don’t have to wonder about such things. Obviously, Terrior matters.

Terroir (/tɛrˈwɑːr/; French: [tɛʁwaʁ]; from terre, lit. 'lands') is a French term used to describe the environmental factors that affect a crop's phenotype, including unique environment contexts, farming practices and a crop's specific growth habitat. Collectively, these contextual characteristics are said to have a character; terroir also refers to this character.[1]
