We better eat the horse, I see many aromatic herbs. Oh yes, do you have rolling paper? No i just play guitar.............I imagine two cowboys working their way down the mountain pass on horseback. One turns to the other and says, "I was thinking about lighting this here cigarette, but all I have are matches... and we're outside."
As an aside, I think "Stompthroat" is my favorite avatar so far. Assuming that's your actual picture, you don't look like you want to stomp my throat. Is there a back story to your handle?I don't think I've used matches at all the last 3 years. My new house is like a wind tunnel. I'll give it a shot in the garage and see if I can tell any difference.
“¯\_(ツ)_/¯“ What?Only way I've found to not impart any flavor AT ALL is by using a magnifying glass. Watch your aim though! Just ask @cosmicfolklore

The most discerning palate in the history of pipe smoking ?I taste the sun when I use a magnifying glass.
honestly you can get as good of a light with a lighter as with matches. And no noticeable taste difference. The thing is if you use the lighter correctly and don't over heat the tobacco. I think it's the temperature more then the fuel that effects the taste. It's much easier though to get a great light with a match then a lighter especially something like a bic. The trick with all of them in my not so humble opinion is to keep the flame from touching the leaf and to hold it just close enough to get combustion. Again with a match even if you touch the flame to the tobacco it won't ruin it.I've been smoking pipes for about 10 years. In that time I've used different ways to light my pipes. Some people account for no obvious taste differences between the various ways to light up. I challenge you to take a blend your very familiar with and use only matches. The intended goal is to reveal how butane and lighter fluids alter the taste of your tobacco and to determine if you can actually perceive that difference as I can. Hopefully this is rewarding for those with delicate palates and at minimum will show the value of tradition and technology. Happy Smoking!
