Be a bit leery about cellaring rectangular tins like those by Germain, Penzance style tins. They tend to lose their seal for whatever reason. Have not had that issue with my Mac Baren tins, thankfully. Solani tins are a bit suspect as well. Their 100g tins have the tobacco just stored in a plastic bag, the last tins of 633 I opened were really on the dry side. The smaller, 50g tins had issues as well. I opened some decade old 633 and all had rust on the inside, probably b/c the flakes were so moist.
I've taken to using Bell jars. I just microwave the jars for a minute or so, put in the tobacco and seal em. As they cool, they create a slight seal.

Mr English, I have opened F&T, Orlick,Escudo, tins that were all fine after ten plus years. I have a lot of Solani Silver Flake, you think I should crack em and put them into sealed jars? Also pm sent.

Cigrmaster - I would. The 100g tins are not vacuum sealed. That is good to know about the F&T and Orlick tins being OK. Must just be the Penzance style tins. Had a bunch of Penzance lose their seals, the same with Kingfisher and University Flake tins when they were made by JF Germain.

Isn't the vacuum sealing only for those you wish to keep cellared, and not regularly smoked, since after each opening you'd need to vacuum them again? Thanks.
(I'm new here, what do you think the likelihood of a ban is? If Nanny Mike Bloomberg has any say, we'd be fined as well as banned). Thank you.
David

I think there first step will be to tax it, they'll want to take their cut as they destroy it.

I have some Maple Street, and I have noticed that when I got it was a punch to the face of maple scent, now that it has been in a mason jar for 2 months its really mellowed out, The taste is still there, but the jar note is different. Not so maplely....If that's even a word?
