We like to keep a spray bottle filled with mineral spirits handy. It's never failed to melt the wings clean off, relegating those mothers to the ground.

We have tarantula hawks (wasps) here. Absolutely terrifying up close but thankfully they're not aggressive. I come across them while hiking and never had a problem. Of course I've maintain a safe distance though.
That's what I thought as well but the inspector expressed concern over the size in their reply.
Damn. About as big as those flying roaches in NYC underground parking decks. It's like getting sucker punched when they fly into you. Or so I think I remember.

They only lie in wait to attack, are aggressive, and have nasty enough venom to occasionally kill humans:
