My family has been in the roofing biz for over 100 years. I was never crazy enough to make it my profession but I've done plenty of it on the side. I've been chased by all makes and models of horrendous winged stinging buggers.

We like to keep a spray bottle filled with mineral spirits handy. It's never failed to melt the wings clean off, relegating those mothers to the ground.

Speaking of bugs, I was riding a bicycle at a good clip across the desert north of Wickenburg, AZ one time and had one of these hit me in the face just below my left eye.

Yup, they fly.

Yup, they're covered with spines.

Nope, didn't crash. (came close, though)

Damn. About as big as those flying roaches in NYC underground parking decks. It's like getting sucker punched when they fly into you. Or so I think I remember.
