I saw what I thought was a murder hornet by me a couple months ago. Turns out I think it was a Pigeon Horntail. Which don't have stingers and don't bite. So I left him alone. Unfortunately I think our new puppy found him. Huge though.

Does look like a stinger, but it's either a leg or part of the wing maybe.

If I would have that in the house I would have 3 people screaming in terror. We also have a migration of exotic insects the last few years, first came the Vespa velutina and this year I've caught 2 Zoropsis spinimana this year which migrated from Southern Europe. For Northern Europe these are exceptional large bugs.

The bottom one looks like a fisher spider ... they're pretty docile ... I just catch them and return them outside... they just eat bugs. I get about 2-3 on the back porch under the light looking for dinner...

The Dolomedes is a domestic type of spider, the Zoropsis spinimana isn't for Northern Europe (everything above the Alps). People freak out because they look like the true Wolfspider Lycosidae which is a venom spider, this one actually isn't. The are a bit agressive when you want to catch them, the lift up their front legs to look larger, but that's about it. Last week we had a story in a paper about a lady that saw this spider, didn't dare to turn of the lights to go to sleep and called the animal humane society to come pick it up first thing in the morning 😂.

So that is definitively a Murder Hornet ?? or ... and Asian Hornet ?? I want to know in case I see one.
By the way the common household cleaner Fabulosa seems to dissolve bugs on contact ... at least small ones.
I tried to kill a large spider with a household cleaner, and then spray paint. He took of running. Then he was just colorful and angry. 😖

In Connecticut we have Fisher spiders (nickname) because they can run atop water and catch minnows ! They mainly eat bugs and I have always found them pretty docile if you are gentle with them. But if you are aggressive well ... who isn't aggressive in turn ? Its pretty cool at night to see them walking atop the grass across the lawn.

It might have been a brown recluse ... I hit one in the garage once with alot of carburator cleaner (only thing handy) and it only got pissed off ! Used a shovel in the end. They are aggressive and will chase you ! And their quite deadly ... we've had people got to hospital who've been bitten walking across esplanades at the mall and they end up losing a calf or limb. Those be careful with ! Shovels work !

usually it's an Ovipositor on non stinging wasps. The stinger is actually a modified version of that.
I had this huge wasp in my garage a few years ago. I was afraid the cat might try to eat it if it got in. I looked up the types of wasps that range in my location. One of them shared a name with a totally unrelated type that lives in India. I looked up the name and first link was about the Indian type. Which is aggressive and has a sting that is compared to the bullet ants. Then the next paragraph talked about where they're found and that it shares a common name with an American insect. The American version is huge over 2 inches long scary looking. Stings almost never and is slightly less painful then a sweat bees....

Wolf spider size of my palm. Scout summer camp number of years ago, my older son came to get me. He doesn't like spiders. He said "huge spider, dad. Go get him." I was talking with other SM and ASM. I told them I'll be right back. Enter the tent and I didn't have to look for it. This thing was size of small plate sitting on the ceiling of tent staring at me. I almost screamed. Never saw live spider that big before. I was thinking just chasing it way, but changed my mind and went back to get my walking stick. Thankfully, it was gone.

Speaking of bugs, I was riding a bicycle at a good clip across the desert north of Wickenburg, AZ one time and had one of these hit me in the face just below my left eye.

Yup, they fly.

Yup, they're covered with spines.

Nope, didn't crash. (came close, though)

Say hello to the Palo Verde Beetle:

Great. An Asian hornet in Tennessee, neighboring state to my North Carolina. In the bedroom! Damn. That is not a pretty picture. Maybe it was looking for a nice soft pillow or a shoe to sleep in. How do they eradicate those if they locate the nest? Thank you for the heads up. Shudder. I too thought these were invasive in the Northwest for now. Nice work, clapping that in a jar.
