Markings are wrong and no red. I compared it to the cicada killer and the European hornet, but this big fellow is of the Asian variety.
Thought they were around 2" with orange head. You might want to report that one.
The females get that big, but this guy is nearly as long as my thumb.

I didn't expect them to get to east so quick. But better get the experts take a look. Heard their sting is 1/4". I don't want them anywhere near me.
That stinger can penetrate a beekeeping suit.
I've sent photos to the state apiary inspector.
If I would have that in the house I would have 3 people screaming in terror. We also have a migration of exotic insects the last few years, first came the Vespa velutina and this year I've caught 2 Zoropsis spinimana this year which migrated from Southern Europe. For Northern Europe these are exceptional large bugs.
I remember when I was in Italy and I warned my brother and his friends about Asian hornets. Of course, typical kiwi ‘she’ll be right’ attitude they disregarded my reports on their size. Later that afternoon one came in the window next to where they were drinking wine and playing cards. I have never seen guys move that fast before, I’m fairly confident one shit their pants. They said it wasn’t until they saw it that they realised the sound wasn’t a drone.
I had to keep the kids out of the room until I had it in the jar. We're a house full of bug lovers.

Yeah, we got nothing dangerous here. More chance you will get killed by a plant than a bug or an animal.

There have been reports of 'Asian Hornets' over here these last few months.
I saw one once, a 'regular' hornet, about 30 years ago and was amazed at how big the thing was. That was when I worked in a wood machining shop and the nest was discovered in the huge wood store where we had exotic timbers from all over the world.
