Itstone: Welcome aboard!
I won't be confirming or denying any reports of crazy stuff being smoked by "those Calgary guys."
But Shikano, you guys are the ones seeing red deer running around, apparently. 8O

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! I'm still a newb, I miss my old place where I could smoke inside, cant wait for spring now. Now that I've got a few connections I have a small collection of aromatics and a few english blends with more stuff on the way.

sw0snuff3r: hey neighbor, my brothers live in kitchener! Do you ever shop at Walper?

I haven't been to Walper's but I've visited their online shop. I don't get out that way too often but I plan on checking it out next time I'm there. That is the only place I've seen in Canada that sells nasal snuff although only a few varieties of McChrystal's and ridiculously expensive. With the tanking loonie it might make economic sense to pick up a pipe or two as well compared to ordering online from the US.

Welcome ltsone! It is well worth sticking around and getting on the box pass. There are many many blends that you can smell and try which is a great way to get an idea of what you like and what you do not like. The box now has a pretty wide selection to the point of slight overwhelm. This can be fixed by closing your eyes, reaching in and smoking whatever you pull out.
Those Calgary guys smoke some crazy stuff man
You guys are in Alberta.... you have no idea about crazy stuff. Try living on Vancouver Island!
We just had out winter yesterday. All signs of it should gone within the next hour or two and we can get on with spring.

I'm a new pipe smoker(about a year) and I'm not sure exactly what you guys are doing but it looks like fun! I live in SW ontario(close to London) Maybe later this year I can get involved? How exactly does this work?
Welcome to the forum and the Canadian Box Pass thread. It will be great to have you join us in the box pass. We are a small group now but growing slowly. Check out the rules in the first post of this thread to get an idea of how it works. It's quite simple really and a lot of fun.
We don't live too far apart. I'm in Amherstburg, just outside of Windsor. I'm in London a few times a year. My middle daughter lives there for school and my brother is in Ingersol and mom is in Woodstock. Perhaps we can meet and enjoy a pipe together next time I'm up that way.
Cheers, Jim. :puffy:

I have tried it and have some in the cellar as well. I won't go out of my way to get it but I like it a lot and will buy more if the opportunity arises. There isn't any in the box at this time.
That's a good score. Have you tried it before? :puffy:

I got the box today! Quickly tore it apart and smelled the good smells. It contains much awesome. I am unfortunately catching a plane to Calgary for the weekend in the morning so I will have to take some pictures when I get back on Monday! I'm excited to take a gander at epicure and to try to track down some scotch!

I have not tried Penzance yet but probly will when it comes in. I must say I have been very blessed as a new pipe smoker. In the last month or so have went from 2 good baccies to around 20 including the Penzance without having to break the bank, learned how to pack a bowl properly , learned to be able to actually taste the tobacco and without tongue-bite AND best of all met a great community of fellow pipe smokers!

Wait until your PAD begins. It starts with cold sweats and trembling hands every time you look at pipes. The next stage is reaching for your credit card without being able to stop.

Resistance if futile...

@drezz: Wow that was fast. Enjoy you r time with the box, lots of goodies in there.
@itstone: That's excellent. Sounds like you are off to a great start on this journey. Enjoy it.
@shikano53: Resistance is futile...indeed it is. Easier to just go with it. :puffy:

I'm back from Calgary! I am now thoroughly spoiled. I stopped in to epicure and had a nice chat with Jason Holt about the state of the tobacco business in the west, and Canada in general. It's nice to talk shop and it's an opportunity I don't get often. I only bought a tin of SG Best Brown flake and some small cigars to share with friends (Macanudo Maduro's, if that means anything to any of you -- it doesn't really to me!). I ate some great food, met some fantastic people, and had an all around fantastic time. The gf (of muleing fame) came with me and she only gave me a mildly hard time for spending too much money on scotch and tobacco - she was a good sport. I brought back a bottle of Bruichladich Port Charlotte and Old Pulteney 17yo - two near the top of my 'To Get' list of scotch.
Best of all is that I came home to a fantastic smelling house and a box heaping with tobacco! I can not wait to dive in! I fully intend to start with a bengal slice this evening. The gf heads back to Montana tomorrow so after we spend one last evening together until the spring, I will wind down with a nice pipe and reflect on the great month we had together.
More soon!
