PAYLESS CIGARS STILL HAS SUN BEAR TINS.... LIMIT IS 1 PER CUSTOMER... THEY ALSO HAD A SMALL DELIVERY OF ESOTERICA TILLSBURY AND DORCHESTER (WHICH SOLD OUT IN 20 MINUTES)
... I treat these limited releases as "special occasion" blends and not as something I'm looking to add to my regular rotation.
I don't hunt every limited release, but the one's I do I enjoy the chase for. It's about the only excitement this old man habit brings me. Lol.
Welcome! Its a fun rabbit hole to fall intoOh I don’t mean to say it was overhyped. I read about it, found the backstory engaging enough to try it. It’s a reference to how many other things (especially through Instagram and “influencers”) are sold in rare “drops” as opposed to just creating product and people being able to order/back order. More a joke on my part, I realize bees are only making honey when they can.
I have no idea if I’ll love it. I started smoking this month, and have only now started to be able to know if I like one of the 5 tobaccos more than another, and I can’t even describe why yet. Which is why I am happy to have got in on this drop
Sounds like my usual luck, brother.I got 1 tin from tp. Today I figured I'd check watch city since they were releasing simply red which I heard is very good. Got 3 tins of sun bear and simply red was out of stock so I got 5oz old dominion. An hour later got the email simply red was available. Crap
And it seems the word is out, holy shit that sold fast.I don't believe they have the leaf, and especially the honey, to make this a regular offering. I like the small batch releases, seems like the majority of them are very, very good.
Just a guess but if it is like other limited release blends then it should have hit B&Ms too.Does anyone know if this made it out to the B&M's or was it all online?
Thanks Snowhill! Looks great! Curious about amount of casing to tobacco.Sunbear homeblend. Not my recipe, but thought I’d share. I’ve had good luck with it.
I know of at least one person who got his from a b&m.Does anyone know if this made it out to the B&M's or was it all online?
I followed Ernie's (Watch City Cigar) guidance on casing, so for an 8 oz batch of the Sutliff blend, 1/2 oz of casing. He stresses less is more. Thanks Snowhill! Looks great! Curious about amount of casing to tobacco.
Bijou uses Katerini, while Sun Bear uses 2013 Izmir and 2014 Basma. Would I be able to tell the difference? I don't know...I think it’s a similar recipe, sans sauce, but I think the leaf they’re using for Sun Bear is older, IIRC. They do have a lot of taste similarities.
Wow. That’s great! Thanks. Yes, link would be awesome. I had the thought of mixing up a little to add to Bijou. Might not need the sugar or honey.I followed Ernie's (Watch City Cigar) guidance on casing, so for an 8 oz batch of the Sutliff blend, 1/2 oz of casing. He stresses less is more.
I forgot to mention, I added a small amount of apple cider vinegar to my sugar / water mixture while boiling. Tablespoon per quart.
If you need the link to Ernie's write-up, let me know.
I like both a lot. There's similarities but to me at least, clear differences. I find Bijou more full bodied and rich tasting.Bijou uses Katerini, while Sun Bear uses 2013 Izmir and 2014 Basma. Would I be able to tell the difference? I don't know...
I have some Bijou... somewhere. I've never smoked it yet.I like both a lot. There's similarities but to me at least, clear differences. I find Bijou more full bodied and rich tasting.
I found the same thing but the Bijou I smoked was 5yo while the Sun Bear is only 2. Not sure how much of a difference it would make. That said, the Sun Bear is really starting to open up. The first few bowls were ok but the last few were great. I found the same with Bijou though.I like both a lot. There's similarities but to me at least, clear differences. I find Bijou more full bodied and rich tasting.
I was online at 12:00am Tuesday morning but didn’t get through to place an order until 12:15. My lowest number in my 10 tins is 1575. My highest number is 3065.SP rocks, tins arrived ...what's the lowest # tin in your batch?
I wonder who got #1?
