Oh I don’t mean to say it was overhyped. I read about it, found the backstory engaging enough to try it. It’s a reference to how many other things (especially through Instagram and “influencers”) are sold in rare “drops” as opposed to just creating product and people being able to order/back order. More a joke on my part, I realize bees are only making honey when they can.

I have no idea if I’ll love it. I started smoking this month, and have only now started to be able to know if I like one of the 5 tobaccos more than another, and I can’t even describe why yet. Which is why I am happy to have got in on this drop
Welcome! Its a fun rabbit hole to fall into ;)

Sunbear homeblend. Not my recipe, but thought I’d share. I’ve had good luck with it.

Mix the following from Sutliff, 1:1:1 -

TS24 Blended Turkish Ribbon
TS1R Red VA Ribbon
TS1 Bright Virginia Ribbon

For the casing -

Sugar / water mixture, 1:1. Bring to boil. Then add a small amount of honey (1 teaspoon per quart), bring to boil again, mix well. Lightly spritz the Sutliff. Jar it for a week.

In a small bowl or glass, mix St Germain Elderflower Liqueur (or some other brand) - 1 part with Espolon Reposado Tequila (or some other brand) - 7 parts. The glass and the Sutliff blend all go in a large Tupperware container for a month. After a month, bring the tobacco back up to proper case and jar it.

Thanks Snowhill! Looks great! Curious about amount of casing to tobacco.
I followed Ernie's (Watch City Cigar) guidance on casing, so for an 8 oz batch of the Sutliff blend, 1/2 oz of casing. He stresses less is more.

I forgot to mention, I added a small amount of apple cider vinegar to my sugar / water mixture while boiling. Tablespoon per quart.

If you need the link to Ernie's write-up, let me know.

Wow. That’s great! Thanks. Yes, link would be awesome. I had the thought of mixing up a little to add to Bijou. Might not need the sugar or honey.

I like both a lot. There's similarities but to me at least, clear differences. I find Bijou more full bodied and rich tasting.
I found the same thing but the Bijou I smoked was 5yo while the Sun Bear is only 2. Not sure how much of a difference it would make. That said, the Sun Bear is really starting to open up. The first few bowls were ok but the last few were great. I found the same with Bijou though.
