Does anyone have any experience with the Black Meerschaum Brand? They seem to have a good deal going on right now. Interesting fittings in they use briar at the mortise.
I searched for it earlier and it appears to be deleted for some reason.Search the site. I think there is already a thread regarding them.
Personally no. No advertisement, but Bremen Pipe Smoker (Mark) has done an video on YouTube about their pipes with the proprietor of Black Meerschaum.Does anyone have any experience with the Black Meerschaum Brand? That’s where I originally heard of them.Personally no. No advertisement, but Bremen Pipe Smoker (Mark) has done an video on YouTube about their pipes with the proprietor of Black Meerschaum.
I say more tobacco. It runs out. And pipes are most enjoyed by being smoked. If you have too many pipes you can't smoke the ones you have as much. It's like wives. One or two is a fun time but 10 or 15 and you'll risk forgetting one in a draw for a few years.I’m really on the fence between another pipe or more tobacco.
That's a beauty. I find IMP probably have the best draft and drilling. MKM and anything meerschaum market carries is great too. SMS, Yanik, Atinay are sweet too. I'm about done experimenting with meerschaum though. I've come to the consensus the bigger the pipe, the better the smoke to me. I like them dry and no gurgle. Big reverse calabashes or big classical shapes offer this typically.
I didn't even think of that. But also meerschaum doesn't like moving after it's cured. I wonder if there is a small concern of that briar ring ever blowing the shank up or cracking it?I see one significant issue in having a briar mortise insert. The bonus of a delrin or nylon insert is that moisture during smoking causes no swelling in the insert and the stems on those can be removed at any time. The briar inserts may swell and cause difficulties removing the stem causing stress on the meerschaum.
