It is that, most definitely. They even have bars where you are still allowed to smoke inside! Along with great food & beer, very civilised.

Give me a hint please, where are those bars located? I don’t know any public bar, where you can smoke inside over here.

But that one is true, Pfeifen Heinrichs is the place to go for pipes, tobacco and cigars in Cologne. And there are still a few tobacconists around that sell pipe tobacco.

Cologne also has several good shops.

You would think London would be on the list of the best. Sorry, it's not on my list. A couple of times when I was there I visited several shops which had large selections of pipes and tobaccos. After looking around for a while I asked if they had any Castellos. In every case, not only did they not have any, which I can understand, but they all acted like they never heard of them. Yeah, right! What a bunch of b.s. that was. I'll finish my rant by thanking my great, great grandfather for leaving that town an immigrating to the United States. puffy
I agree with your comments about London. Other than an occasional Pete or Savinelli, not much in the way of non-English briar.

I have visited Switzerland and Germany several times. I remember the tobacconists, loaded with good Cuban cigars, well preserved in those humidity control cabinets. Something similar was in Spain in the 80's and 90's.
Not just that, but in Berlin I saw restaurants even have a humidor on the counter, in plain sight, for their customers to enjoy a postprandial cigar.

Definitely not something one would find here.

I’d say whatever cities have the most pipe smokers which you could probably extrapolate from the # of B&Ms per capita but it’s more than that. I would think accommodating weather would help boost ratings too. For instance, London couldn’t be - it’s pretty much lousy weather often. Chicago is called the Windy City, so no Chicago. Probably somewhere in Europe (in Italy?) but who knows.
Chicago's nickname of "the windy city" is an old political observation not a meteorological appellation. Although wind is a factor there as well.

I never knew that. I always assumed it being situated next to a Great Lake made it windy. The internet is actually giving yours, mine, and other reasons as the etymology so who knows. It would seem the reason you gave still holds true in my experience haha.

Id wager there are at least a handful of metropolitan cities in the SouthEast US that are amenable.

There are several shops/lounges in the Louisville/Southern Indiana area that have wonderful selections of tobacco and pipes (and cigars of course), allow you to smoke in their lounge in comfort, and have good food readily available.

Between Kentucky, Tennessee, the Carolinas, and Mississippi there must be a couple dozen shops of varying size and scope.
