Just because I'm curious, what are your feelings on senseless beatdowns (and killings) perpetrated by ordinary citizens? They, too, seem to be escalating in similar proportions.

And it continues to escalate.
Any Proof?
How many times have we witnessesd senseless beatdowns(and killings) from authoritative figures?
My thoughts are that it was much worse 50-100-150 years ago.......... it only SEEMS more prevalent now because everyone has a cell phone, with video recording capability......... I see none of the real beatdowns like back in the good old days........... :puffy:

Estimates I've heard so far put United's losses at currently 250 million dollars. Despite several legal pundits here claiming that it was no contest hands down in United's court, the consensus I'm hearing elsewhere is that United has already lost this. This is a PR disaster they can only make 10X worse by prosecuting the guy and charging him with a felony. He is going to walk with millions. And the matter of Geoff Fearns is the icing on the cake.
The downside is that some people will try to play into this stirring up trouble trying to force an issue looking to collect now and for that I really feel sorry for the passengers caught in the middle of all this.
This all really started with the TSA and the sad thing is, people I know who fly to Israel tell me they have an infinitely better system. Rather than shake down little kids and old ladies, they PROFILE the passengers for high interest people then take them aside for questioning. They are very effective in tripping up and spotting potential terrorists rather than the BS PC methods forced on us where no one is profiled and everyone is treated with suspicion.
For years schools have been lax in teaching kids their rights but us older people have to start standing up for our rights because history teaches that what you don't protect will be taken away from you.

Well, part of it may be that while in years past, ordinary citizens were interested in not being victimized and discriminated against. Now people seem to go out of their way to be victimized and discriminated against; sort of a social fad. Or at least I hope it's a (passing) fad.

Everyone is a "victim" these days, and easily offended too.
Time was when I was young that if you slipped and fell down in front of someone's house, you got up, dusted yourself off and kept going. Tore the fabric on your pants knee? You sewed it, patched it or bought new pants. And were more careful the next time.
Jump forward to 2017: We have been taught that everyone is a victim now. There is a lawyer to take every case and chase every ambulance. People have learned that by squeaking, someone will oil their wheel now rather than tell them to shut up and go get a job.
Apparently the medical/pharma community has half the people in this country now hooked on opioids, and the other half looking to sue somebody.
I think I am starting a new special interest group called: Passenger Lives Matters, and we are heading out to start protesting at all of the airports. That actually doesn't sound like a too bad idea.

Problem is there's absolutely no accountability these days.
No accountability for being a whiney little b!tch.
No accountability for being a bullying d!ck.
I can't stand it when someone wants to make their problem and I absolutely have no patience with someone bullying someone else, be it physical, mental, or monetary imposition of one person or person's over another person or group of people.
Before I get worked up here I think I'll pour another glass of Glenrothes and find another tobacco to consume.

This incident is mostly just the straw that broke the camel's back. United is getting the brunt of years of pent up frustration and disgust with the TSA.
The conventional thinking is that they don't do profiling due to political correctness, but IMO that is just a smokescreen. The reason the "security screening" is conducted in such an absurd manner is simply to train and condition the public to accept it as the new normal. It has nothing to do with real security...it's just security theater. IMO one of the most dangerous places a person could be in is a long TSA security line. Those people are sitting ducks.

True. The good old fashioned beatings are not really the preferred method any more. These days they're much more likely to either taser you or just shoot you.

I just watched the news conference "circus show" put on by Mr. Dao's attorneys and his daughter. Never let an opportunity to grandstand and pad the billing go to waste. It's good to see Mr. Dao retained an ambulance chaser of this caliber, because this guy is slimey enough to blame global warming on this incident. This is why the world has a negative view of lawyers, just above the current view of United.

This ambulance chaser has been talking way too long. He's actually hurting his and Mr. Dao's case at this point. This entire episode is starting to look like a Twilight Zone rerun.

I guess I'm that rare person who is untrainable and unconditionable. It is not normal, never will be normal, and I will never accept it. I get pissed enough when showing up at a hospital to get an operation and they insist I prove who I am with a photo ID, as if anyone else would even know about my operation, my name, the date, much less want to sneak in to have it performed on them.

Those weren't real police IMO and COPS have way too much crap on their necks as it is. Technically a police officer is a Constable On Patrol, and when he shows up, you are just supposed to comply. Yes Sir. The real problem is the airline bringing the police in the first place. Ever who was calling the shots there was just out to show that they were the Big Bad-Ass Airline and that you are nothing.

As long as they keep it back in the cheap seats, don't drag him past my wee cubicle in first and disrupt the flow of cognac, I'm fine with whatever goes on back there. Oh, and I won't be happy if I miss my connection. So, git 'er done and let's get airborne, I've got places to go and people to see.
Also, I read the small print, am aware that the airline and that I have obligations. Further, the place to debate such obligations is not on the airplane, it is in front of a judge.
