My recent game time has been spent largely on Dota 2 with some old schoolmates that picked it up again.
Little bit of World of Warcraft: Classic: Cataclysm, too.

Keep meaning to sit down and play through Xenosaga, since I went to the expense of legally purchasing the trilogy.

I bought the first 2, but couldn't bring myself to pay $100 for the third. And then there's Xenogears, and Xenoblade Chronicles. I want to like them, but the SF is a little too far out for my taste. I'm enjoying the start of Xenoblade Chronicles X, though: maybe I'll stick with it!

I was just curious if any members liked to play games... I've had an off and on interest since I was a kid, but for a long time I would mostly just play ports games or the occasional GTA or whatever. But lately, I've been playing a fair amount of RPGs, which I never would have imagined myself playing. It started out with actions RPGs like Elder Scrolls and The Witcher 3, but I just finished Persona 5 a few weeks ago. A Japanese RPG of all things. Turn-based, even! I actually loved it. Right now, I'm playing Diablo III, which I know is an old game, but it's new to me. I've always been a console guy, so I play the PS4 versions of the games I play.

What about you guys? What are you guys playing, if anything?
I play World of Warplanes which I can not smoke while I play because I am so busy shooting planes down. I also play Tropico 2 a pirate base management game and Planetbase a base building game both of which I can smoke while I play.

Finally got burnt out on balatro. Managed to beat every deck but the plasma deck once. And gold ante one deck. Only took 179 hours before I got tired of it. Then I read the first 2 higursahi vns. But I don't think I'll stick with that s I saw the anime for it years ago and the game is mostly the same stuff just with more filler. Still good Justin not in the mood for it now.

Anyone still actively play “Ultima Online” on the original OSI shards? Not the free to play shards.
Somehow this game has roped me in for over 20+ years…..

Fantastic game. They really need to make more Western games. Even if they do, Red Dead Redemption 2 will be hard to top. It's one of those games you keep going back to play over and over again.
RDR2 truly is a masterpiece. I'll never forget the feeling of discovering Saint Denis for the first time. The feeling of being in a living, breathing New Orleans circa 1899 is amazing.

Surprised to see Xenogears mentioned here. It was my first experience with a classic JRPG and I loved it.

Though I've played all of the Xeno games, Xenogears is my favorite.

About a month ago I started playing Skyrim again after a very long hiatus from video games. My brother gifted me his Xbox series X and I decided to download it and play with a mod list, which I have never done before. As it turns out, modding is just as time consuming and addicting as playing the actual game 😂😂

I was surprised to find a Greatest Hits copy of Xenogears at the local EB Games for $20 in 2005 or so, and managed to put 5 or 6 hours into it before life got too busy. I enjoyed it more than the 35 hours I played of the first Xenosaga, and have been tempted to start it up again...when I finally find my PSOne.

I waited in line back in '98 at the Electronics Boutique for that one when it came out. Big demand for it back then.

Doing some videogame maintenance.

Went back inside of the Lynx2 & replaced the speaker:
IMG_E6877.JPG
Lynx2's sounded like crap even when new. Lynx1 always sounded better. This is a 3rd party replacement which matches the Lynx2 speaker specs of 40mm x 5mm, 16ohm, except more power handling at 1w instead of .2 w. Just desoldered & resoldered the original harness to easily keep the plug the same.
Sounds much better, maybe as good as a Lynx1. I have some laying around so maybe I'll compare.

The McWill screen mod is still working well, & looks great!
IMG_E6878.JPG

The mosfet that I replaced when I did the screen was to hopefully repair a sporadic "no power" condition at turn-on, & that seems to have been fixed. The mosfet may also be able to dead-short to the processor like I said last time, but I'd have to double-check that, & also I had forgotten that I had actually bought it to try & fix the sporadic no-power condition. But the new diode was to avoid a diode failure & overcurrent to the processors. =)

Found some coordinates & ran some Chips Challenge fractal generator:

S.T.U.N. Runner is fun to play:

But as much as I like the Lynx2, the Lynx1 is much nicer to use in general. But, the Lynx1 McWill screen mod is a lot more of a pain to do, so I've been holding off on it until I did a Lynx2 McWill screen first. I've had four Lynx (two 1 & two 2) & four new screens in a box for years now, just received a bunch of soldering & wiring stuff that I had ordered, to stock up.

Well yes, you mentioned JRPGs and i can tell you that for me it is really a thing here, as i'm a big fan of Final Fantasy games, and recently i have finished FF12, not the best in terms of story, i mean comparing to VII and X, but still it was quite fun. Now i play Nine Sols and have fun, it is a very beautiful game really

Did some Dreamcast videogame maintenance, too. Needed a new rechargable internal battery, wanted to clean & regrease the laser carriage, & I had some VMU memory units that I wanted to remove the batteries from (batteries not needed for memory storage), & I also wanted to back up my saves. In addition I wanted to select a new avatar for the VMU mini screens, which apparently you can only do once directly after wiping the card.

I removed the original rechargeable battery from within the Dreamcast & soldered in a battery holder, & inserted the new rechargeable battery.
IMG_E6863.JPG

Back in place, & now it should stop asking for the date & time.
IMG_E6864.JPG

I reset & backed up the VMU memory units, & removed any batteries. I had a new one in storage, & its batteries still had the pull tab. They were still fresh & are the same as my pc mobo battery, so I'll save them.

The Dreamcast wouldn't let me copy over my F-355 Challenge files. I was able to load the game, load all of my setup & records data into the game, & then was able to save all of my data to the second VMU in the controller that way. This was important because I really wanted to get rid of the goofy avatar on that first VMU!

After all of that was done, there was something that I wanted to do in Shenmue...

...but I started having some disc-read errors & decided to go in & recalibrate the laser resistor. I have adjusted this in the past, but never measured where it was, or where it ended up.

There's the pot:
IMG_6893.JPG
Easy to do this. The laser carriage is lifted from its mounts & flipped over to access the pot. The ribbon cable is still connected. Then just plop the whole thing back onto its mounting posts when you're done.
The disc-looking thing circled in yellow can be rotated to vary resistance, changing how much power the laser gets. Clockwise lowers resistance, anti-clockwise increases resistance. Test points are marked in red, stock setting is around 1Kohm, but if you run burned discs &/or are having disk read errors even on authentic discs, then try turning the resistance down in 25 ohm increments from 1K thru 900, testing along the way. After that it will be passing more current than you want. I never bothered to measure & probably had the resistance way too low & sending more current than I needed to into the laser, & it's been years since then.
Initially this time I didn't bother to measure where it was & just turned it CCW until it stopped, then CW 1/2 turn until it started working. But then I figured I'd better measure it & I had it at 1050 ohms, a little under-powered but maybe fine. I left it there & it worked last night, except for a couple discs which never work, but then started having issues today until it warmed up. So I went in & re-set it to 925 ohms & it seemed to do better, even after a cool-down. Tomorrow I'll see how it does when it's cold again. Glad I'm measuring though, because 1/32" of movement is worth like 25 ohms. It's a fine adjustment.

For now it seems like it's back to running how I would expect it to run (still not loading a couple discs that it never does, but at least I know where the resistor is set).

I might look into having a couple of my discs resurfaced, because while they're not in bad shape, a few of them have one or two marks or scratches on the read-side that I'm sure are causing me issues.

Maybe Lapis Fortune Teller can tell me if disc resurfacing is worth trying!

Been on a long FromSoftware bender, played through Sekiro twice (incredible masterpiece) and now playing Dark Souls 2. I feel the hate this game got is totally unjustified. I also have Lies of P lined up, Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

Though, @Chasing Embers, Bloodborne is the one game I really want to bite into, however I hesitate getting a console to play this one game! I have hopes they'll release it for PC eventually, possibly as a remaster for the PS6, whenever it comes. I feel Sony is leaving millions on the table, and will eventually lose them once someone perfects a homebrew PC conversion.
