Now if y'all start digging on each other's military branch, I'll be right at home. I'm from a mixed marriage - Mom was Navy and Dad was Air Force. They trained in a joint facility for all 4 branches (sorry Coast Guard and National Guard) and they have great stories.
Dad likes to tell about the Marine he bunked with who wouldn't sleep at night. He'd spend his nights out in the hallway and then you'd hear "thump, thump, thump, thump, KABOOM!" Finally, Dad went out and asked him WTF he thought he was doing. The dude was bouncing a bouncy ball down the hall and diving on it - he told Dad that he planned to save his men one day in that fashion and he needed all the practice he could get. Being this was in 1978, I don't know if he ever got his chance.

you know... that's true. We also had folks in Korea (support personnel - mostly Army) around then and wasn't there a Latin American conflict in the 80s? I had an aunt in Korea and a (former) uncle in a rain forest.
Last time I stepped into a Legion hall, I was about 17 and had won some sort of honor - I think it was an essay contest - that was only available to female children of veterans. All I remember is being terrified the entire time I was hugged and picked at by all the elderly military wives. :D

I think I'll wade in now...

No offense intended toward Women Marines; but my favorite testosterone laden acronym referring to Women Marines is:

BAMs.... Broad-Ass Marines. God Love'm!

drillinstructors.jpg

One of the best ass-chewings I have ever received was when I was a recruit at Parris Island was from a "BAM DI, a Series Sergeant Major". She was loud, and really pissed off.

She said something like: "Who said you could you could eye-ball my privates!"....

If I had laughed I would have "really" caught three kinds of hell!

:puffy:

SEMPER FI!

it's funny, the 1st time i heard that term was from a nice grandmotherly type who told me she was a BAM during WWII. i asked her what that was and without missing a beat told me Broad Assed Marine.

I think that Women Marines are not given the respect they deserve.

Believe me; they have earned and deserve the title United States Marine.

There were two in my Avionics Unit. H&MS-24.

Both were very good shots and techs.
Maduro, if she's still with us please express my respect and thanks for her service.

If she's not, express the same in your thoughts or prayers... I will.
Edit: I have new BP meds and am in a strange mood today.

Sorry for high-jacking the thread MJ.

Somehow the thought of grandparents doing "it" is disturbing.

Most entertaining thread I've read in weeks, thanks all. I am grandfatherly, a veteran, love woodies (the Kay kind), and still have plenty of T.

Not a veteran, but proudly serving as a full time State of Texas Correctional Officer (CO IV), as well as a part time Correctional Officer for the GEO Group.
You know what they say about a Correctional Officer don't you?

not testosterone, yuri, respect...
grunt and Cav trooper.
@ Maduroman, there was no disrespect intended, as a vet of most conflicts of the late 80's and 90's I respect all services and serve them to this day. I was just poking fun of ya! That's all because I have yet to meet a Vet who is not a testosterone junkie...... :D
