I bought a lot of HU in 2016 directly from HU as they didn't have a distributor who could export to the US. At that time most of the paint cans came with a plastic top. As I smoked those tins I transferred the plastic top to a tin that didn't have one.
I bought more HU tins in 2018 and 2019, none of which came with a plastic top, so I transferred available plastic tops to them.
In 2019 I checked the 2016 tins to see how the contents were holding up and found that the tobacco in the tins without the plastic top were considerably drier than those with the plastic top.
Yesterday I checked a number of the 2016 cans, all of which have currently have plastic tops, to see how they're doing. With the exception of the tin of Indaba, which was very dry, all of the other tins were still moist. I've rehydrated the Indaba and put it back in its tin for now, with its plastic top.
Next week I'll get into the new tins to see how they're doing.
If you're storing your HU tobaccos in their original tins and they do not have a plastic top over the metal lid, I suggest that you check them to make sure that they're not drying out in the tin. These paint cans will not prevent loss of moisture without the extra layer over the metal lids.
This has been a public service announcement from the Coalition to Prevent Tobacco Turning Into Mummy Dust.
