I assume that HU tobaccos move off the shelves quickly, ammirite? I imagine finding a tin with age on it at a BM would be bittersweet, thinking you got one with age on it, to find that it has mummydusted.
They are actually very steadily available, i've yet to see a K&K (Rattrays for example) or DTM produced blend (DTM makes HU blends) sold out at my source or it is a "limited".

If one is that concerned, I think it's either remove the tobacco and jar it or put the entire tin in a mylar bag. I put quite a bit in some 5 gallon mylar bags for extended long term storage.
I was just thinking hypothetically. I enjoy pipe smoking much more after I stopped worrying about stuff like this. I do my best and then forget about the tins in the cupboard under the stairs. Failed seals don't keep me up at night.

It's good hypothetical thinking. Reasonable precautions should be taken to protect your tobacco cellar. I'm about 50/50 on being concerned about the HU tins so I did what I thought was reasonable. Like you, I don't lose sleep over it.

I seal my HU tins in mylar bags. When I get new tins in I also make sure to check that the lids are firmly closed before bagging them. I can say not every tin dries out because I have bought HU tins from 2013 and the contents were perfectly moist

So I would like to add a bit to the thread. After reading it, i decided to dig up my three year old Reiner Gold. Each tin appeared to be sealed, but didnt give any his or pop as it was opened. Regardless, They are all in jars now.

Just ordered my first HU can on the way. Actually first paint can in general but I remember reading someone having an opinion regarding some offputting tastes possibly attributed to the HU can itself. Any experience or thoughts about this? I was planning an attempt to vacuum bag seal the entire can.

I've never heard of the tin causing offputting flavors. Did you get this off of YouTube?

Ask yourself this. You in business to sell tobaccos. You buy tins for the packing process. Do you buy tins that will make your products taste like shit be cause it's good business?

Not sure...but I think it might have been on tobacco reviews somewhere.
