Absolutely gorgeous! I’d label that pipe the Witchy Woman. Her dark soul entrances you and never lets you go. ?️
Yes, although Mammoths were considerably larger, the Muskox certainly evokes an aesthetic comparison due to their shaggy coat and ancient appearance, complete with bossed horns. Both incredible animals. Muskox notably for their underwool (Qiviut) that is softer and warmer than cashmere that helps keep them warm and comfy in -60 temps, as well as their circle up with the young inside defense mechanism when threatened by bears. That is a gorgeous pipe, materials and execution at a high level. Even more impressive is your concept. I hope you have decades ahead to collaborate and enjoy these pipes, but I think you should look into leaving the set, with written commentary, to an Alaskan historical museum; it will be amazing. I think the Mammoth is one of the most astonishing creatures, a bit like the musk ox today in terms of an enormous creature who sustains great weight in a seemingly austere ecology. Where the hell did they find the hundreds of pound required each day?
I've seen people make pipe stummels out of deer antler. They smeared the inside with some sort of cement/gypsum product. While I have a number of antlers laying around from past hunts, I've never entertained the idea of making pipes out of them.I've also heard ivory can taste a bit like burnt hair, although I think that was in reference to actual ivory stummels.
I was never really gone, just lurking. Turns out running a company, building a house, and raising a toddler takes up a fair amount of time ?Glad to see you back @alaskanpiper. It’s always a great feeling getting a pipe you’ve wanted.
Yeah, I won't be turning them into stummels, just accent bands and shank mounts most likely.I've seen people make pipe stummels out of deer antler. Back in the 60's there was a barber shop across the street from the elementary school I went to. There was a hole in the floor where the owner swept all the hair down into the basement. On any particular day one's sense of smell would be assaulted by burning hair and whatever else went into the incinerator. Almost as bad as the funk that would waft up hillside from east side of town from the combo platter of two meat packing plants, a stockyards, sewage treatment and rendering plant. Particularly cloying on a day when the temp was just around 35-40 degrees and humidity/fog hung in the air.
Thanks for the translation, I had no idea what you meantFantastico! (fantastic)
And, more, more, more!
That would be an extremely cool thing to see. God only knows what kind of unique pipes people would come up with. That is a beautiful pipe and I love the Alaska themed idea. It would be interesting to see themed pipes from all 50 states (and beyond).
I knew you'd know, and 97.53% of our membership would as well. Gotta watch out for the not-so-quick.Thanks for the translation, I had no idea what you meant
