I'm not sure what is curious about it. Rodrigo buys collections, and probably bought this pipe from the purchaser. A couple of sales, and the dubious provenance of this any any other Chinese fakes are lost.

Benandci, the seller of 3 months ago, was selling a mixture of cheap Chinese pipes and some high grade Danish and Italian pipes as well as the notorious fake Nordh that sold for $8100. Marty Pulver got involved in finding out what was happening and was apparently told that the listed fakes were an "experiment" and a "mistake". Didn't stop benandci from continuing his sale of the Nordh, though a lot of the other "questionable" pipes were pulled from auction at that time.

Benandci's currently selling more pipes on ebay. Anyone doing business with him deserves what he gets.

Yes, "dishonest" would seem to to be a better term.

This auction from Bendaci drew some interest on the SmokersForums today:

A '77 Root Briar (albeit unsmoked) for $2000? Not likely.

Glad you put that up Al, and as I pointed out at SF, the band does not appear in any way to be a Dunhill band, and of course the seller doesn't put any pictures which clearly show the hallmarks, or the lack of them.

In one of the images you can see the word "sterling". The word "silver" is on the other side, out of view. I've seen this make of silver band on a number of pipes of different makes. It's clearly not a Dunhill band.
Somehow I don't see this auction getting any action. Nice birdseye, though!

Treasure Pipes might want to end his auction if the product being sold may not be authentic. He is an honest seller and will do the proper thing for his business and the safety of his customers.
Why can't Ebay stop the other person as being a fraudulent seller. He should be banned.

The auction for this pipe just closed for over $2,000.

The provenance of this pipe is certainly suspect, but who knows if it's genuine. I think it's clear, though, that most Chonowitsch collectors stayed far away from this auction. A smooth, like-new pipe by Jess C. usually goes for more. Crazy.

If anyone sells any pipe under the brand Silver Castle, Golden Age, Neptune, Huge Stone ... you may tell it is very possible that he will sell fake stuff.
The brands mentioned above all come out of one factory based in Shanghai. I happened to know someone worked there. They advocate Silver Castle as a brand in Canada led by two young guys named Sam and C... they learnt pipe making from Todd Johnson ... and Neptune as a studio brand owned by Todd Johnson ... and other crappy stories ...
Silver Castle pipes are almost everywhere in Chinese pipe stores. They are cheap, though look nice and some of them are ok smokers.
This may piss off that friend if he saw this, but I feel a must to tell the things I do know for certain ...

It is a nice looking pipe I would have bid on it if it were a no name. Maybe not $1000 but still. I get the Jess C debate, but the pipe is nice looking

I forget which post but we were discussing "lightly smoked". Here is a perfect example of why you should never be pulled in by the sales lingo to describe a pipe. Now this pipe has been smoked once or twice, LOL.

Sold for $2,025. Way too much for a "Jess" pipe, but quite a bit lower than most pipes made by Jess Chonowitsch.

This probably another fake high-end pipe, since this ebayer (benandci ) has been recognized making knockoff pipes. It was recently been found that a fake Todd Johnson pipe made by 'benandci' has been circulating in pipe community: benandci -> coopersark -> pipe_list, then been destroyed by pipe_list (more detail on Instagram).
Please be careful when considering buy pipes from this seller.

What can we learn from this venerable thread?
1. P. T. Barnum was right.

2. There are crooked sellers on eBay, and eBay doesn't do anything about them.

3. Not everybody with money is remotely intelligent.

4. People love a train wreck.
