Thanks very much. Sometimes folks forget that this is a 100% volunteer, non-profit show. A relatively small handful of people put a TON of work into making the Chicago Pipe Show happen. Maybe because it's SO big and fancy, folks sometimes assume we're some sort of big money-grubbing organization trying to gouge people. In truth, in spite of zero pay for anyone, we're lucky to break even. The entry fees barely cover 1/3rd of the expenses. In fact, they don't even cover the cost of the smoking tent. We just want to celebrate the hobby and maybe, just maybe, help it to survive. Your words of thanks are greatly appreciated.

The tents are huge, nicely appointed with chairs & tables, nice bar, and TV’s. That was back in 2007 & 2008. Meals were truly 1st class, top notch events & presentations, and solid security. Honestly, I”m surprised how affordable the admission price is to attend, and meet such talented carvers, tobacco wizards, and mix of fine vendors & fellow pipers. It’s such an easy event for the attendee, well organized & executed. Time flies by, enjoyed every minute. Bottom line, if you can attend, do it. Truly a fun event.

Oh rly ! Well this information adds another facet to my decision making and might make it worth the drive down. Thanks! And thanks for not being snarky in your answer like the other guy lol. If I was prepared to put down several hundred dollars then 50bucks to get in would be worth it on that alone but due to other items I’ve had to buy this spring I don’t have the budget right now for PAD or TAD but am interested in attending.
I am happy to share information and glad it came across right!

I had a great time again this year. The number of pipe vendors was incredible. Not as much pipe tobacco as the Columbus Show, but Arlington did use its Illinois license to sell C&D blends next to the SmokingPipes table. Ron Pecorini and the CPC deserve a lot of credit. I bought a few pipes, and traded a few.

But my favorite part was the huge smoking tent, made even larger this year for small group presenters like one on the Castello factory and The Get Piped documentary video on the Battle of the Briar (it was incredible). The tables in the smoking tent were generally full most of the day, with a “leave some, take some” table full of pipe tobacco. The generosity and sharing was great and the conversation even better. We all made instant friends wherever we sat in the tent.

I took a photo of the vendor poster, which perhaps you can blow up below if you are looking for anyone in particula.IMG_4809.jpeg

The show volunteers were incredible. For instance, the ashtrays on each table in the smoking tent were emptied every hour. Registration was very fast and the women at that desk very friendly and welcoming..

The Battle of the Briar competition, hosted by master pipe maker Jeff Gracik, is so cool. A very reasonably priced buffet was set up for lunch every day near the show room. The President of the Chicago Pipe Club generously announced he was giving away a bowl full or a small container full to anyone who wanted to try a rare Esoterica blend, including Penzance and And So To Bed, from his personal cellar.. Many in attendance got to smoke these rare blends for the first time. A sincere thank you to all.

The Hyatt Regency is a first class hotel. Volunteers from other clubs such as the Milwaukee Pipe Club worked long hours too keeping things running smoothly. For this old pipe smoker, it was the perfect pipe show, Thank you, Chicago Pipe Club!

Thanks so much for your kind words, Mike. But even more importantly, I'm delighted you enjoyed the show. I'll be sure to pass on your comments. And yes, the Milwaukee (MKE) club and CPCC are very tight. Several of their members are extremely important contributors to the show and nice people, to boot.
