The big pipe shows all happen at a different location than their name, which is kind of fun. I guess Vegas is west, but not really coastal. The Chicago show is in an outlying town beyond the suburbs ( or in the suburbs depending on how you see it). And of course the New York pipe show is in Jersey. But given the cost of big city venues, it all makes perfect sense. Maybe the slightly remote locations make for better shows, except for Vegas which is one giant distraction, but the pipe people seem to stay put anyway.

When you attend a show, expect to buy things. Otherwise, you are deluding yourself. Great photos! Looks relaxed and most enjoyable. I can't tell if the clothes denote air conditioning or the weather outside, but maybe some of each.

Very enjoyable posts but I wish people would put names with the pictures.

I can name the people in the last two photos in pylorns' post above. The penultimate pic is of Brian Levine, and the last pic is of Mark Irwin, co-author of the fantastic Peterson book, and his publisher Gary Schrier.

The highlight of the show for me was getting to see my friends from around the country and meeting some new guys. I had my fan boy moment when I realized Greg Pease was in attendance. I nearly asked him to autograph a tin of Quiet Nights for me.

I also really enjoyed Steve Fallon's presentation at the Saturday night dinner and thought the crowd asked some great questions about the future of pipe shows, the demographics of pipe smokers, and what's in store for Peterson pipes.

The lone drawback for me was that the hotel shut down the smoking lounge on Sunday night and the Sportsbook no longer allows cigar or pipe smoking* so there wasn't a common area for those of us that stuck around Sunday night to smoke.

*Ironically, they do still allow cigarette smoking in the Sportsbook though. Apparently the general manager feels that pipes and cigars create too much of a smoky haze that blocks the view of the TV screens.

My wife and I talked to Steve Fallon for a bit as well. My wife has specific instructions to contact him and what to do with my stuff should anything happen to me.

I'm still pretending I didn't see a particular pipe on his table that's not on his website. Yet...

Steve Fallon's presentation at the Saturday night
Anyone know if this was video taped. Sure would love to see presentations from the shows, but I guess that is just more motivation to make it next year;)

Great point; this is actually a huge deal. Ever since the remodel of the Palace Station began this has been an issue. If pipe guys are coming to the show then there should be a place for them to smoke, full stop. The show books a block of rooms from Thursday through Sunday nights. If the show is meeting its commitment to the hotel in part with rooms booked on Thursday and Sunday nights, then people arriving early and leaving late absolutely should be able to count on having someplace to smoke a pipe and hang out with friends, and I don't mean clustering around a slot machine on the casino floor or huddling outside on a bench.

I've been going to the show for about a decade, almost always coming on Thursday and leaving on Monday. If from now on there's not going to be anywhere to smoke on Thursday and Sunday then I'll start arriving Friday and leaving on Sunday and the hotel will lose two nights booking. And you can multiply that by perhaps 10-25; I know a lot of guys who will do exactly the same thing.
