For my first foray into the Box (thank-you Patrick, for the recalibration  ) I thought that since there is SO MUCH pipe tobacco in there, I would start out with the only non-pipe contribution, Condorlover's Belomorkanal cigarettes. (Alright, technically the cotton boll twist is also "non-pipe" since it's labeled chewing tobacco, but whatever.)
They smell heavenly, and when lit the flavor was quite enjoyable. My unrefined palate thought it tasted some pretty sweet Virginias and a significant dose of cigar leaf. It was a quick smoke, but enjoyable nonetheless.

Sounds like the fun has begun in full force over there. I'm getting excited to get it. Have had some rough patches here of late, it will be good to get a big Christmas like present in the mail to share, but also give back to the project. I've got quite a few things to put in.

You can smoke 'Cotton Ball' twist but just go carefully with the stuff as it caught even me off guard, just cut it up fine and use a small pipe. If you chew it you might not taste the wife's cooking for a week or two.

With those cigarettes don't forget to crush the middle of the tube and the end to form a mouth piece otherwise you will blow your lungs out!

I thought about this AFTER I had finished. I should have done some research before lighting up, turns out google has several images of the tubes crimped or crushed in different ways. As it was, I just smoked carefully and thankfully didn't ingest any significant amount of burning tobacco. I did get a few stray embers toward the end, though. It was about that point that I called it quits.
I remember a thread earlier about smoking cotton boll twist, how it was the OP's go-to and where he might be able to find it. I haven't ventured into ropes yet, primarily because of the reported nic-hit. I will grab a small chunk of the cotton boll for when I muster up the bolls to expand my horizons.
Penzance. I think if I were to smoke several bowls of this in several different pipes I would be able to parse out the nuances and enjoy it more. The one bowl that I've had (don't worry freakyfrog, I'm leaving plenty in there) came across as mostly latakia and didn't wow me while I was smoking it. The lingering aroma that Penzance has blessed me with has been a treat. For several hours after smoking it I was smelling my hands and my clothes, reveling in the "3rd hand smoke" like a superstar.

Seems to me that Penzance is enjoyed much more in your mind, the reality rarely lives up to the expectation.
I'm telling you GLP's - Quiet Nights is just as good, if not better. Why, because you can buy as little as 2oz, or upwards to 5 lbs of it if you want at any online retailer right now, and most any day in the future.

108 different smokeables. Staggering.
Please forgive the poor quality pic, it's a panoramic shot taken from my cell phone while standing on a chair.

so roughly 95 different blends at 4 bowls a day that's 23.75 days. Hmmm with only two weeks with the box I'm going to take 2-3 days off of work just to sit and puff so that'll be 5 days I figure I can try about 30-40 of them in that time.. :D

My update is a little underwhelming since I haven't been able to make time to smoke anything new over the weekend. I was able to go through the Box and pull out some other blends I will try shortly, as well as incorporate my own submissions to the Box.

The OGS was getting low so I beefed it up. The rest are new to the Box. The tins are just representative, they all went into approved mylar baggies.

A Serious Note
Due to recent events here at pipesmagazine.com, we have lost two members of the Box Pass, Patrick and Timothy. Both were frequent contributors to this thread, but more importantly, both were generous benefactors of The Box Pass and believed deeply in our mission of building the pipe community. Through sharing their knowledge and giving freely from their cellars, they made this thread, and The Box Pass, a better place.
Patrick had just recently moved The Box on to me, so his massive contributions are now prominent in The Box. Timothy helped resurrect The Box when it was at a low point, with an over-the-top injection of a well-curated selection. He is also scheduled to receive The Box soon. I have made the decision to keep both of them on board with the pass, and to keep Timothy in the rotation. I will take the responsibility to act as proxy in making sure that the hand off goes smoothly.
In the event of any further unforeseen changes here, the Box Pass will continue to operate. We are grateful to Kevin for his continued hosting of our little party, and I look forward to a continued happy relationship with this forum. However, we remain independent of pipesmagazine.com. I will be sending out an email to all Box Pass participants with further information.
On with the show.
-Dan

Simon, I haven't yet tried the St Bruno, but I will shortly! It smells phenomenal! Likewise for the RR Condor. I've left the Condor Plug for some other lucky chap to open.
Sparks, if you're still watching this thread, can you tell me more about Watch City Cigars? I had to be careful not to drool in each of the bags as I took a whiff.

Blasphemy! If price an availability made one tobacco better than another then PA would reign supreme.
Dan, thanks for the heads up. Sad to see them go but its only right they stay in the pass.
