It makes sense to taste a urinal cake first. If you like the taste, then you will love Lakelands.
Statements like this are still disingenuous, it's the same as saying you won't like to smoke Latakia if you don't like to chew it (or any tobacco for that matter).
Smell and taste are connected, but not the same thing.
Lakeland blends primarily taste sweet (unless you get a real fresh batch with overwhelming florals, in which case you just need to let it air out a bit), the association with "soap" flavor is fallacious.
Just be careful not to air out Ennerdale "too much", I find there's a sweet spot where it tastes like candy throughout almost the entire bowl, but it needs just the right amount of topping to still be present but not overpowering.

It always amuses me when people come running to defend Lakelands.
Try it. You might like it.
I did. And I didn't.

It always amuses me that so many people can talk slanderously and effectively lie about something constantly and still act as though they have any shred of decency.

Lakelands are not permitted in my house and, if my wife is outside, they are not permitted outside either. Admittedly I am not fond of the soapy floral taste I have found to a greater or lesser degree in the Lakeland blends, but of those I didn't mind were both 1792 and Lakeland Dark.

I wonder if Brits are divided over Lakeland flavor. Australians love Vegemite, which is probably the worst substance I have ever seen, smelled, or tasted. So all British love Lakeland?? Yes, I am generalizing.

I've posted this elsewhere, but it's worth saying again, that the hew and cry about Lakelands is mostly misinformed and a voice of ignorance.
What if Greg Pease for whoever reason released his blends through SG or GH? His three aromatics would then be called Lakelands, and most likely some portion of those who smoke them would say, "Eeeeeeewh! Lakeland! I'm not smoking them!" My point is that there's nothing wrong with aromatics, and if you like them, enjoy! Every blender makes them. Why should aromantics made by C&D be any more acceptable than those made by SG or GH? My point is that the word "aromatic" is descriptive while "Lakeland" provokes hysteria. And Lakeland scenting is far more varied and intricate than any word, such as "soap,", can possibly describe. It is an ignorant but widely-used term on the forums, an instance of group sycophancy.

Like them if you like them, or don't if you don't. They are what they are however.
I don't think it's all that great to imply that those who don't like them don't "get" them. It's fairly condescending.

I hope I don't come off condescending as I really don't mean to be. I just get passionate about things I like and then I want to share those things I like with other like minded individuals. I absolutely understand why Lakeland's are so polarizing and that's partly what attracted me to them. I certainly don't think someone is lesser than me because he or she doesn't like them. I apologize if I come off In that manner. I certainly would not purposefully belittle DeatmMetal in anyway either, some of his personal blends are amazing and I hold him in the highest regard. DeathMetal is a cool dude, dudes.

@Hawky454 - I have never thought you to be condescending or rude in any way. I'm sure everyone else would agree you always behave as a gentleman and convey your knowledge with wisdom, tact, and yes, passion. You and Deathmetal are both cool dudes, dude.
I've been diving into the scented areas of G&H and SG. My understanding of the current SOAP fiasco is that it originated in some of our Grandmothers having Rose and/or Geranium scented soaps in the bathroom. My Great Grandmother had rose soap. I've never tasted soap in tobacco, Lakeland or otherwise, but have smelled the rose scent in some tobacco tin notes. I'll not delve further into the Lakeland issue because I have taken the position that I enjoy smoking the stuff more than describing it. It often takes a great deal of energy for me to access my vocabulary due to a 30 year old TBI. Luckily, I can post music on this site and stay out of the fray these days, with the occasional commentary. I've got 2 oz. of G&H Grasmere Flake which smells fantastic and will get smoked tomorrow.
I wish every one of you lowly toads a good night and a pleasant tomorrow. :nana:

I love 1792 and there's nothing Lakeland-like about it to my taste. I also like Lakelands, and there's nothing urinal-cake like about it. That's M79 territory.

Great point! And in other countries those types of florals are also common in foods, teas and candies so that is probably why they are more accepting of it in their tobacco blends. I find it fascinating and unique. I've since taken to putting just a splash of rose water in my iced tea.
Definitely wasn't directing any shade at you, sir Hawky!

Good to hear! Just wanted to clarify, thanks!

Lovely stuff, Scotch Cake, Scotch flake, Kendal Cream, the list goes on, no soap whatsoever, rose and geranium are used in some blends, don't get confused! Wish we could get the 'Gawiths' in tins here in the UK.
Some wonderful baccys.
Like the new 'throw away' boxes surrounding those original tins in the Samuel Gawith range (in the UK only probably), great idea.

Great and interesting discussion. Thanks to everybody for the input. As said while not a fan in general of aromatics I developed interest in the “Lakelands” I think because of the quality of the tobacco as well as the casing/topping is different and higher quality from the “chemical tasting” casing/toppings used in many aromatics blend. I might like or not but I will try to see how they really are. At the end if you don't try you cannot judge.
Summarizing I think there are in my view two blends which are probably the best representation of Lakelands which are:

1. G&H Ennerdale flake which is probably the best example of a Lakeland with its mainly Virginia's and Tonquin flavoring.

2. SG 1792 flake, with a different stronger tobacco profile due to the Kentucky but still a typical tonquin flavor.
Other two I think I will try based on what I saw are:

3. G&H Bob's Chocolate flake, for the different tobacco profile with burley and particularly with the Latakia which united to a mild cocoa flavoring should characterize it more like a bridge with aromatics

4. SG Grousemoor which is attracting me first of all because of its history as it looks it might be the oldest recipe in circulation being more 200 years old, as well likely a different profile with more bright Virginias and a more citrus flavoring type.
Do you think these 4 could give a good representation of the “Lakelands”?, Should I change something in the selection?
