It makes sense to taste a urinal cake first. If you like the taste, then you will love Lakelands.

"I recently tried 1792 thanks to Buroak's sale. I love it but I actually wish it had a stronger taste"
WOW...you wish 1792 was stronger 8O
"Aromatics are 95% of the pipe tobacco market."
Though I think that figure is somewhat exaggerated that's likely where 95% of substandard gets used up :puffy:

Jay.

It's true that a non-aromatic has to start with top quality tobacco to get much following. No flavoring to paper over the deficiencies.

I wish it was too.

Not exaggerated at all. After years of smoking a pipe, in my case twenty-six years, every aro I smoke, tastes exactly the way it smells. The new guys for reasons I don't understand, are led to aros for their first smoke, and the more experienced can fully enjoy them. So without the sell of aromatics, pipe smoking would become a dead issue.

1792 - the tobacco is superb. But I was expecting a punch in the face experience of old lady pantaloons. Tin note is there but it doesn't knock me over.

I get floral fragrant notes from 1792. It's tonquin but to me so floral that I get zero vanilla. Maybe some sort of perfumy vanilla. Can't explain it really, sort of like an old bottle of perfume where the water content has evaporated and what is left is super concentrated scent with no subteldy. Anyway I like it

The first time I tried Ennerdale, my hair stood straight up. I was shocked and overwhelmed by the intensity of this blend. It was like nothing I had ever smoked. I put the tin aside for a few weeks and went back to it. Perhaps airing the blend softened the attack a bit. In any case, I learned to enjoy it for what it was.
I enjoyed Bob's Chocolate Flake from the first bowl and it is now in my regular rotation.

I like the Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. "Lakeland" tobaccos. Interesting & unique flavors with great tobaccos as a base.
I want to know how the naysayers know what a urinal cake tastes like...

That's pretty amazing to me. Just another testament that we all experience things completely differently. I don't get that at all from 1792 but I certainly believe that you do. 1792 Flake has slowly risen to my top five all time favorite blends. It's almost the perfect tobacco for me, up there with Condor. I hope it's around for years to come!

There are a few things I honestly hate:
1. Microsoft Outlook

2. George Orwell

3. Lakeland flavoring

4. Apple products

5. Dave Eggers
The problem is that the underlying blends are really awesome, it is just that they have taken a dead old lady, mixed her in with her favorite soap, then soaked her in formaldehyde for a week under a goat cage, and then soaked all that quality tobacco in that goo. It is a tragedy.

Sounds tasty. Although I would happily have a plate of bone marrow, escargot, stinky cheese and a strong sour lambic to wash it down.... Now I'm hungry

They're all different though. If you dislike one there is possibility that you could like another. Have you given any of them at least a two ounce try? As you smoke the bowl down the flavors really start to compliment the natural tobaccos in a way that I can only say that the blenders are some true masters. I see you like stuff like Velvan Plug which definitely has some floral top notes on it so I'm sure there has got to be some Lakeland tobacco out there that you will actually like if given the chance but as it seems I think some of ya'll just love to hate them.
For the record, I am not saying that Velvan Plug is a Lakeland, just that it has some similarities with both containing some sort of floral notes like rose and/or geranium.

Indeed, I have. Not all of them, but enough to shy away. I have a few ounces of Conniston Cut Plug ("Unscented") sealed away in a jar because of the stench. I love the blend, but gag at the perfume.

2 oz try? Can't do it, I give new things maybe 3 or 4 bowls on different days. Maybe I should be more patient. But, Conniston Cut Plug, love love love it! I have to go stick my nose in that jar just at the mention of it. Then again, I have found things in my 'reject' jar I absolutely loved later and couldn't understand how it got it there to begin with.

I definitely prefer larger samples, which is why I usually aim for getting a tin or a couple oz.

Simply because a blend was made there doesn't necessarily mean it is a Lakeland tobacco by common parlance
Except Hyde Park IS a Lakeland by common parlance. It has the essence on it. I've smoked it. It's wretched.
