Should the whole thing be in a ziplock? I would worry about potential condensation. As for light, the man cave is pretty dark.
I think a ziplock would do well - it shouldn't get any condensation as long as you squeeze out the air and keep it in a dry area. This will slow down the aging of the paper.

Shilling is uncool. That is not a practice you should ever condone or practice. This pipe is now on my do not buy list and I will inform my friends. God rest your dear departed grandfather.

I do not quite understand how asking for information is "shilling"? My understanding of thast term is a bidder in an auction setting who artificially drives up the price with no intention of actually buying, in colusion with the actual seller, which in this context doesn't even remotely apply. As I said, the OP was just looking for some information, with what appears to be not a trace of nefarious intent.

Thanks to those with good information. So long, ladies. Who knew pipe smokers could be so catty? No offence meant to cats!

Maybe I hit the wrong thread on the shilling posts. My apologies if I did.
Hey, thank you all for your good sagacious advise. I smoke my K & P Peterson pipe, which is identical to a lovely uncle's pipe. I purchased it while travelling in Ireland which seems to make it feel even better. I occasionally smoke a nice looking Stanwell, which just does not pull as well as the Peterson. I use grandpa's "Terry's Hedgehog Reamer" every day and would not part with it.
That is just outstanding. Best of luck in having the last laugh.

Dear cigrmaster,
Thanks so much for the very generous offer. However, I am not much interested in acquiring your left nut!
Grim, you misunderstood, I was offering my left nut for MY grandfathers pipes, not your grandfathers. I will have you know, woman the world over have swooned for my left nut, it is that impressive. :nana:

I'll add, that not long ago my grandmother gifted me my late grandfather's pipes, a few accessories and an old humidor.
I smoke the un-smoked Medico pipe that was his. Why he never smoked it, I do not know. But I do in remembrance and in honor of him.
She also gave me his fancily carved meerschaum (in it's original box) and a very well smoked OomPaul briar of unknown origin. I don't smoke these two, because apparently the man was against cleaning his pipes - EVER. They are disgusting.
The nasty pipes reside in the humidor, displayed in my sitting room with the rest of my pipes and tobacco. It's almost like an urn, I suppose. But, I'll never throw them away, and I'll never sell them (not that anyone in their right mind would WANT them.)
But, that's me, not you. I tend to cling to sentimental items, whether useful or not. I hope that you find the solution that works best for you, whether it be selling the pipe, smoking it, putting it on display or just in a box to be handed down to the next generation.

Honestly, the amount of shilling in this thread reminds me of the Republican party at an AIPAC convention during a presidential race...... zing
