    New-ish Pipe-Maker Wolff

    Excellent! Now we’ve got a thread! That’s a beauty!

This has an ebonite accent. Perhaps this thread should have gone in “Pipe Talk.”

    New-ish Pipe-Maker Wolff

Christophe Wolff is a French pipe-maker. He’s rather new. I decided to take a chance but I’m thrilled with this pipe and his workmanship. I think he’s talented and will become better known.

We have a lab almost a year old. We’re training him in basic things now but I wonder what more we can do.

Sammy Davis Jr. Doesn't Get Enough Respect.

There’s a doc on him my wife and I watched. Maybe it’s PBS American Masters. It was very interesting. He took criticisms in his life for various reasons. He came from nothing. I’m fascinated with these self-taught vaudeville performers. He was a massive star who went through a lot. He loved...

Acrylic Stems vs Vulcanite Stems: A Comparison

It would be interesting to see a factory pipe come out with it, though cost may be prohibitive.

Acrylic Stems vs Vulcanite Stems: A Comparison

Who is using it? Can you explain what it is exactly? Is it an expensive material for pipe makers?

Acrylic Stems vs Vulcanite Stems: A Comparison

All my vulcanite stems are fine. I have Charatans, Sasienis, Comoy’s, Dunhill, etc. I rub lip-balm into them after every use. No problems. However, some will scuff.

Acrylic Stems vs Vulcanite Stems: A Comparison

I don’t own any acrylic but I’m curious what the difference is between cheap acrylic and high grade acrylic. Does high grade finely crafted acrylic feel better? Is there any way to describe the difference? I just acquired a family era Barling. This really blows my other English factory pipes out...

***What Are You Smoking, October 2024?***

W.O. Larsen’s Fine and Elegant in this patented pre-1945 Barling’s Make. My first time smoking this; I lucked into it for a bargain price. I have to say this is a very comfortable little clencher.

I’m really amazed by both the condition and the quality of the Barling stem. Someone really took care of this pipe. But the stem strikes me as being sturdier than other English pipes, maybe even than Dunhills - although Duns are comfortable and obviously high quality. But this Barling stem seems...

I do have a nice 1903 Bewlay. But I think I give up at this point. Well, that’s what I’m telling myself until one of those comes along.

Excellent. Thanks so much. Obviously there’s one person here who would make a fella think his small collection of English pipes wasn’t complete without a Barling’s. I’ve got a nice Comoy’s, Charatan, Sasieni, and some Dunhills. I thought I just wouldn’t have the money to spend on a Family...

I rushed to grab this on auction. It was about 100$. I really couldn’t tell exactly what I was getting. Family era?
