    Flake Tobacco (PS Navy Flake)

"anything that is Virginia forward, burns too hot (tongue bite), ashy taste, multiple relights, etc" If the bowl is packed too tightly, or if you smoke to quickly, you'll get what you described here. I'd stick to one blend for a few days experimenting with drying, packing and slowing your...

Lane Limited RLP-6 and a Smile

MV-1000 is a straight Virginia with a very light Vanilla topping. It's not as sweet as 1Q or RLP-6, at least to my tastes.

Lane Limited RLP-6 and a Smile

The classics are classic for a reason. 1Q, RLP-6, and MV-1000 are my favorite Lane's blends. Consistently good.

    Aromatics for Tobacco Lovers

I'll add to the chorus of Mac Baren's Vanilla Roll Cake. That's a good tobacco forward aromatic. I also think Lane's MV-1000 fits that bill too. It's a straight Virginia with a light vanilla topping that doesn't overpower the tobacco taste.

    Thoughts From Millennials or Younger

As far as attracting young people and growing the hobby, I just don't think it's going to happen. When I first got into cigars and pipes, it was the mid 90's. There were several tobacconists in my area (Omaha NE). Now there are two. One is in a touristy part of the city and caters to...

    Fall/Holiday Blends

If you like Aromatics, We Three Kings from C&D is good. It's a Vanilla and Cinnamon blend that tastes "Christmasy". Not sure if they are still releasing it? I know they did last year. Some online retailers may have some from the last batch still.

Cup O Joes High Peaks Blends

Regarding the Cup O Joes High Peaks blends. Are these blends that the folks at Cup O Joes blend themselves, or are they renaming 1Q, MV-1000, etc? I know they also sell the Lanes blends, and the Captain Black blends, but just curious if they are blending these themselves or renaming those...

    Made a Few Pipe Ashtrays

It's because of your story that I keep a large jar of water on my apartment deck to dump my ashes in. That was good advice.

    Clan Cob Unite!

Most of my pipes are cobs. I have a few briars, but really like my cobs. The Legend and Washington are probably my favorites. I smoke them without the filter. The open draw is nice. I'm in Nebraska and if you ask anyone here who is over 60 they will tell you that their fathers and...

Samuel Gawith Tins and LJ Peretti paint cans?

I had some tins of SG FVF aging in mylar bags. Big mistake, for me anyway. They rusted significantly. I pop the tins now and put the contents in mason jars or food grade mylar bags.

    Ordered Some Aromatics

You might want to give 7 Seas Regular a try too if you like that "Captain Black" flavor. These were mentioned, but I'd like to second Sutliff Vanilla Custard and Creme Brulee as well.

    Filter Or No Filter?

No filters for me. They definitely mute the flavor in my case. I've actually done a side by side comparison (a filtered pipe and one without) to test this once with the same straight Virginia. The tobacco in the filtered pipe tasted almost bland compared to the non filtered pipe. The...

I Finally Tried Some Lane 1Q.

I go back and forth between Aro's and straight Virginia's. I enjoy the occasional bowl of 1Q. My local pipe shop sells more of 1Q and RLP-6 than any other tobacco according to the owner. Personally, I like 7 Seas Regular the best out of those Captain Black type blends.

    Changing Tastes.

I have an odd experience with this. I smoked cigars exclusively before starting with pipes. Eventually, pipes became my daily smoke and cigars less. Now, I smoke a bowl a day, and smoke 1 cigar a week (usually on the weekend). The strange thing for me, is that when I started smoking pipes, I...

    Peanut Butter Tobacco - Halloween

I know this is an old thread, but Wilkes aromatics are good stuff if you like aromatics. The Peanut Butter and Chocolate one is wonderful. I honestly picked some up out of curiosity and ended up really liking it.

Not For Sale, For Free: 5 Newbie Packs. 7/7/2020

This is a kind and generous thing to do. I'm sure this will help a lot of new pipe smokers.

    Question Regarding Recent Meerschaum Purchase

Thanks. I'll give that a try. I was using the Everclear on the inside of the bowl to get rid of the old musty smell it had. It worked, but then some dripped off of the paper towel I was using and made a run on the outside of it.
