Peterson Flake vs Royal Yacht Mixture

Haven’t tried Peterson Flake and I put off trying RY for years because of negative press. What a loss! When I finally tried it, I kicked myself for not trying it sooner. It’s not a typical VA but has great body and flavor and doesn’t get hot even when pushed. Definitely worth a try.

Enlighten me on C&D and GLP

Thanks Sykes. I appreciate the clarification and all that you do to keep pipe smoking alive!

Enlighten me on C&D and GLP

A few other interesting things that are more recent - they have a proprietary red VA cavendish and proprietary Perique grown on farms owned by Laudisi, C&Ds parent company.

Interesting. Also by chance Briarworks Smokehouse blended by C&D was just released today, too.

Enlighten me on C&D and GLP

I wholeheartedly agree with this. There are some great blends to be had in bulk. I tend to buy tins because it’s easy for me to deal with but bulk is cheaper and easy to buy a single oz of a bunch of stuff. Usually their bulk tobacco will be dry or on the dry side, even the aros. Keep that in...

Enlighten me on C&D and GLP

On SP, the number of blends is misleading because it counts all of the sizes and bulk/tin as a blends. Many blends come in 2oz, 8oz and 16oz tins and are also sold in bulk. Part of the reason they have so many blends is due to their history. Craig Tarler, who founded C&D with his wife Patty...

Enlighten me on C&D and GLP

It’s one reason why I like to read the WAYS threads. Gives me a good sense of what people are actually smoking regularly.

Enlighten me on C&D and GLP

True but @Chasing Embers also expressed an opinion.

New Gawith Releases (in US) Confusion

You should really invest in some Gawith blends. You don’t support them enough. 🤣puffy

New Gawith Releases (in US) Confusion

Think I got mine in 2020 but it’s possible that distributors had it well after production was discontinued.

Also Celtic Mist I think. I smoked that 20 years ago.

Virginia Cream is the only one I can think of unless you count booze topped blends like Barbary Coast.

Enlighten me on C&D and GLP

C & D has been around for over 30 years. They have something like 150 blends under their own name plus they blend for a lot of labels including GLP. In general, what do you like to smoke? We can suggest some blends to try from lines produced by C&D.

Hello from Long Island, New York

Nice! I played a lot of travel soccer games out that way growing up in the 80s.

Hello from Long Island, New York

Welcome from the Hudson Valley, NY. Grew up in Queens and spent much time in Nassau and Suffolk. Where on the Island are you? Hope you find some of the items on your list.

    Savinelli Autograph...Did I Stumble on a Gem?

Yeah Autographs are artisan made and tend toward freehand shapes. Numbers aside, it’s a score.

Did we just lose Presbyterian in Europe?

I’m with you! I find that a bit of burley in VA based blends really helps balance things out, keep the blend cooler and gives more body, especially as I tend to be a puffer.

Best No Nonsense Way to Pack and Break in a Pipe

As the man says, this is always reliable. +1 on the burley blends.

Best No Nonsense Way to Pack and Break in a Pipe

My impression from his posts in other threads is that OP has some experience pipe smoking but has not had a new pipe. I like that description.

Best No Nonsense Way to Pack and Break in a Pipe

^^This^^ You can always adjust a draw that’s too open but a draw that’s too tight can be very difficult to correct during a smoke.
