Does Anyone Find Certain Latakia Blends More Pungent than Others?

I have a couple pounds of precious Syrian latakia left that I love. It burns slow and mellow with a wonderful mouth feel. That said; it is NOT an indoor tobacco. I think we're all different in the way we perceive smells. I love the woodsy, smoky, peaty smell of Latakia (goes great with my 16...

    Reccomended Mix

I'm not a big fan of most cherrys either, but my local tobacconist has a "not too cherry" cherry that I may try blending with some of my precious Syrian Latakia. I can see how it might be interesting. My local shop has been in business with the same family since 1917 and they have a blend...

Old Mac Barens / Dunhill ad

I'm an army vet and a pipe smoker so when a co worker was cleaning out his mom's house and found a mail order catalog for the Army Airforce Exchange Service Europe from '71 - '72 he brought it in for me. I wonder what one of these tins would cost now. I thought you guys might enjoy a flashback.

    Latakia Paradox?

I'm a self confessed lover of Latakia, although my first smoke with it was nearly my last. I'd been an aromatic smoker and when I tried my first English blend it nearly killed me. It took me years to try it again. Now I can't stand a sweet topped aro and I love a slow burning, creamy bowl of...

    Is This Mould?

I've only ever had one jar go fuzzy; it was very obvious. I stared at every jar and bag in my cellar for the next week waiting for the apocalypse. As I was taught as a young soldier "when in doubt, throw it out" meaning a salute, but I think it works here too. No tobacco is worth getting...

    Short Churchwardens

I have a Savinelli "Gandalf"; it's 8 inches long. Savinelli got in trouble for using the name without permission so they rebranded the pipe as the "Qandale". Go to Smokingpipes.com and search Qandale; they have several styles to choose from. It's a lite pipe at only 1.8 oz, so other than...

    Wind Caps??

I have one pipe with a built in cap. I use it when I'm on the tractor so the pipe doesn't smoke too hot and the ashes don't blow back on me. I also use it when I'm in the woods for fire safety reasons.

    Value Of Estate Pipes, Generally

Too much grey area. For a current production pipe I'd say the above applies. When you get into older pipes too many things come into play. I like Stanwells, so is it a Redg No era pipe? Is it handmade? Is the stem handcut? Etc. I have a Stanwell 96 smooth with all the above and it took...

    Respect My Procrastination

I love your quote by the way. "Gottes Mühlen mahlen langsam, mahlen aber trefflich klein…" I know different people read different meanings into it, but for me it's a reminder of the virtues of patience. I know the irony involved considering this humorous post about taking too long to make a...

    Respect My Procrastination

The nerve of some people! Someone bought the pipe I was looking at . I'd been looking at it for no more than three weeks and was just about to almost seriously consider looking at it more seriously when WHAM! it was gone. I'm sure it was some impulse buyer who had no more than a week...

Favorite Pocket Reappropiated Containers For Tobacco

A guy taught me a pipe cleaner trick years ago that works wonderfully. I've never had one fall out. If I have a tobacco that needs a little dry time before smoking I can load it as is in the morning, cap it with a pipe cleaner and it's perfect by lunch. As an added bonus, I always have a pipe...

Hard To Find Blends Available Here

You'll have to call and ask, but as @wolflarsen said above the tins he saw there didn't have warning labels.

Favorite Pocket Reappropiated Containers For Tobacco

I use a Copenhagen dip tin if I’m going to be out at the farm all day. I have a bad habit of creatively misplacing things. Misplacing a used dip tin with a couple bowls worth of tobacco doesn’t hurt as much as a nice leather pouch. ?.
