    I was at Fort Benning for about 8 months, and now I'm over at Fort Polk. Luckily my long term girlfriend loves New Orleans and has vacationed there several times so I'll have an excuse as to why we should go visit so often.

    Do You Do the Dottle?

    I use the dottle to experiment. I have a jar that I dump the dottle into, usually around three bowls worth and then use that to make a half(ish) bowl of mystery blend. Sometimes its an intriguing and tasty combo, sometimes its a rancid combination that I dump immediately.

    I recently PCS'd to Louisiana and had to leave many of my favorite shops behind. Is anyone familiar with any local pipe shops? Hopefully I can avoid having to make weekend excursions to Houston or New Orleans solely for the purpose of buying tobacco.

    When you "parfait" tobacco blends so to speak, what do you usually look for? I've never experimented with the idea before. Do you look more for blends that will compliment/diversify and build depth? Or is it more of a random "I feel like these" kind of moment?

    Let it breath for a few days and try it again. If that is still unsatisfactory then seal it up and cellar it for a month or two. I experienced the same thing with some Peterson Irish Flake. Opened it up, dried a couple flakes and smoked them in my favorite pipe. Meh. Let the tin breath and...
