    Chronic wet smoker

All the Falcon lined chambers are too small. They seem to take the standard bowl and add the meerschaum rather than over ream the briar and then add the lining. Probably cost cutting issues. However, the Falcon pipes allow you to flick out the moisture on the carpet if your other half doesn’t...

What Is With Petersons Using P-Lips For All Their New Releases?

Petersons with p-lips are too much work so you can’t smoke them on the sabbath. Get a fishtail! I still like Petersons, I’m Irish, and I protect my home with a carbon fiber shillelagh! Time marches on.

What Is With Petersons Using P-Lips For All Their New Releases?

We weirdo’s love acrylic stems. How many of you have purchased estate pipes where the vulcanite stems have been over buffed to the point that your teeth break through the stem. Over buffing would not be a problem with an acrylic stem….no need! All this rain must be softening your head.

    So Much Information Everywhere, Yet..

I believe we are all, at one time or another, victims of our own Conformation Bias. Look it up.

***What Are You Smoking, November 2025?***

Smoking a bowl of aged C&D Derringer in an MM Rob Roy?(I can’t remember the model of this pipe that doesn’t seem to be in the catalog anymore) It has an upgrade acrylic stem and a military bit. My 13 year old girl in the background. We met online and just fell hopelessly in love!

    Grabow stems

@Chasing Embers has commented in the past that the aluminum tenon has sharp edges that scrape away briar in the mortise rendering the stem loose. I bought a cheap set of diamond? tools at Harbor Freight. The set has a small pointed head that I use to round over the tenons slots and round end...

    What are You Reading Now?

I’m reading (in fits and starts) The Pope Benedict XVI Reader. Very interesting. In my younger days I was a little baffled by WFB’s Roman Catholic religious beliefs. Then I read Chesterton. So many conversions recently among conservatives!

Duane, You will be missed. You are a mensch! (Yiddish term for a man of integrity and honor) All the best to you.

    Devil Anse Pipes?

I don’t understand the idea of tilting the bowl forward on these pipes. Seems like they would just dump tobacco and ash on to your lap!

***What Are You Smoking, October 2025?***

I’m smoking some 10 year old St Bruno in my Fermanagh grandfather’s beat up old Peterson 317. The front of the bowl was damaged from his wacking out dottle on the stone wall he used to sit on while passing the breeze with his cronies. I don’t know how old this pipe is but he probably started to...

Returning Trumpet Player After 55 Years

I recently started private lessons with Mike Vax. He has played with Stan Kenton and Clark Terry among many others. I’m learning fundamentals, which I had neglected as a youth. Playing with records is fun but you don’t really make progress unless you get out the ‘ol Arbans book and...

How Hard is it to Burnout a Pipe?

With all that heavy puffing your tongue should be telling you something. I’m a “sipper” and I use matches mostly and the occasional Bic when I’m reading (matches need two hands). In 55 years I’ve never had a burnout. Besides, my tobacco yields better flavors and aromas when the ember is just...

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

I have two 317s. One was my Ulster grandpa’s and the other is fairly new. They are my only bent Peterson’s. The rest of my pipes are 1/4 bent or straight. The problem with the 317s is that when I’m clenching and exhale through my nostrils I blow ash and embers all over my lap, damnit. Is this...

    Well I'm Fat Pt4

Started Carnivore Diet at 219lbs. I now weight 147 and feel great. My doctor, a sceptic, is quite pleased. Arthritis and psoriasis are history. I walk for an hour three days a week with no fatigue. The trick, for me, is to stop thinking of food as “entertainment “ and think of it as nourishment.
