Let’s Solve Why Pipe Smoking is 1% of 1935

Wanting to live is for posers.

    Savinelli Bowl Coating

It's atrocious. Like burning industrial chemicals/plastic. I know it's not a Castello, but I feel like for $130 it should be ready to smoke. I think I'm just going to return them and get a Tinsky I've been wanting for a little more money.

    Savinelli Bowl Coating

Yes I tried a couple different tobaccos, same chemical taste. I ran a pipe cleaner through it just now after smoking, and it looks like stain is coming out in the mortise. I think that's the culprit as you suggested.

    Savinelli Bowl Coating

I'm not sure. Honestly it would make more sense if it was stain in the chamber rather than the carbon coating itself. Never experienced this before with any other pipe I've purchased.

    Savinelli Bowl Coating

Update: I got a replacement pipe sent to me and midway through the bowl, same burning chemical taste. I am convinced this is the bowl coating savinelli is using now. I assume this is new production because both pipes came with a proper pipe sock rather than the paper sleeve Savinelli's used to...

Farewell Sutliff Tobacco Company - Monday 3/4/25

I was having a rough day and my wife brought home a tin of Plum Pudding bourbon barrel aged that was on the shelf at a tobacconist by her work. She knew I liked that one and that it was discontinued. Misty-eyed I said "I knew you were the one." True story from this week.

    Savinelli Bowl Coating

I haven't bought a savinelli in a few years and decided to purchase a new 622 Roman Lucite. For it's inaugural smoke I loaded up some Peretti Original Mixture and half way through the bowl I got this horrific burning chemical taste. I initially thought it may have been the blend, which I smoke...

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

Away from civilization for awhile. I only brought one blend with me, and one blend is all I need.

    Rainy Weather Smokes?

Nearly anything Latakia is what I want most days; however on a rainy day nothing hits the spot more than My Mixture 965 or GL Pease Charing Cross.

Inaugural smoke of Standard Mixture Medium in a new Nording Spiral Freehand. It's a beautiful day.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

A nice rainy day with with a cup of tea, MM965, and a Briarworks Briar Calabash. It doesn't get a whole lot better than that. Watching the Giants game.

    Sweet Latakia Blend Recommendations

It depends on what kind of sweetness you're after. I personally think that Latakia can have a sweetness of its own, along side the smokiness and funk it's known for. But if you like the sauce, I have two recommendations for you; Boswell's Countryside - lighter English with some kind of topping...

    More about Latakia...

Whatever it is; it's beautiful and I love it. Just had a bowl of fresh gaslight and it was bliss. I don't notice much of a difference between the one I smoked today and when I first had it 10-12 years ago, except I'm much better at tasting Virginias than I was before.

    Greek Easter Memories

I was told the same thing when I was younger. I think the logic behind it is that it's a way to get some protein without feeling full. Also, shellfish is plentiful in the Mediterranean and weren't considered the delicacy that they are today. A lot of people don't realize that lobster used to be...

    Greek Easter Memories

As a slav who follows the byzantine tradition I sincerely appreciated this post. My wife and I have been essentially vegan(save shellfish) for Great Lent and are preparing for Great and Holy Pascha. We're doing a prime rib this year instead of a lamb, but pretty much all of the liturgical...

    Skippy's Blend of the Week

I highly recommend Boswell's Pennsylvania Dutch Treat if you want to try more cherry. It's becoming on of my favorite tobaccos of all genres.

    Underrated Blends

I had a nirvana smoke this morning with Boswell's Pennsylvania Dutch Treat. I feel like aromatics in general are underrated and crapped on online. I get it, I used to crap on them too until I finally figured out how to smoke them...which took almost 14 years of pipe smoking and realizing I...

    Things I Found Thrifting

Found a couple calabashes today. I didn't know that Kaywoodie even made a calabash. Didn't buy them, might go back tomorrow.
