It's not essential to read before LotR but LotR is a sequel to it. The main plot points of The Hobbit are summarized within LotR. The Aroma of the Shop
Yes, M. Cahill and Son in Limerick City is one of three tobacconists I know of in the Republic. It's a very old shop and worth visiting. I wouldn't get your hopes up on many tobacco purchases in Ireland as the selection is small and very expensive but you may find yourself a nice pipe!- Aylesbury Pike
