Time for me to get serious about this Tobaccolypse

I'm usually too cynical about the impending doom of the pipe tobacco industry... but now everyone has me a bit scared. I have some questions... Will Vincent Manil's / Semois blends and other European imports like Erinmore mixture etc be hard to come by or just more expensive? Will USA blends by...

Jose Rubio: My New Red Dragon

I don't make posts about every new pipe I get. This one was highly anticipated and special. It arrived a few hours ago. It was more than I could afford. Jose gave me a deep discount so that I could afford one of his pipes. He surprised me by sending me the pipe that I initially wished for. I...

    Authors... Why so popular?

It seems too me that quite a few folks on this site love Authors. What is it about that shape and it's smoking qualities set it apart for you? I see they tend to have quite large thick bowls and rather wide mouth pieces. I'm asking because I am contemplating one at the moment.

    Naked Pipes... thoughts?

Hey friends. I was wondering what your thoughts on "Naked" pipes are. I really like the idea of them and the look of some of them... Radice, Jacono, Bonfiglioli and others. My question is this: If a pipe has no stain or wax whatsoever, is it more likely to degrade to some extent? I imagine it...

Stem is TIGHT on new Dunhill

I bartered and saved and got myself a Ruby Bark Dunhill... it's a size 3 pot. Small, nice pipe. The stem is on very tight. I am afraid to twist or yank it too hard... Do you have any advice? This is the pipe: https://www.smokingpipes.com/pipes/new/dunhill/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=191504 Thanks LT

Chimneys and tall bowls...What cuts/blends do you recommend?

I have acquired a nice 6+ inch billiard with an a very tall and deep bowl... inner diameter is somewhat tight... like .75 diameter... What characteristics should I hope for in a tobacco to give me a terrific smoking experience? I imagine I could smoke anything in it... I am just looking for a...

    Drilling Concern...

So, I have this new pipe. The pipe cleaner does pass through the stem and shank. I can see it pass all the way to the bottom of the bowl, but It doesn't angle out of the pipe like on all my others. It's almost like the pipe cleaner gets stuck in a minuscule nook and won't angle out... I did a...

How Can You Tell How Old a Tin Is?

These are some tobaccos I picked up on IPSD at HOLT'S in Philadelphia. The proprietor said that the Gawith tins were "in the back forever." He said he only brought them up the other day - The Tins have some rust on them... I know that doesn't necessarily mean that they are old.... in any case, I...

Going for another... can I go wrong with an AKB, Meerqueen, imp, or Altinok?

My first Meerschaum didn't work out for me... a few years ago... it was a Storient. It was beautiful, but draw was off etc... I want to add a Meerschaum to my rotation. I have as much as $250 to spend on this pipe... less is fine too ;-) Can I go wrong buying an Altinok, Meerqueen, IMP/WGM, AKB...

    Meerschaum Colorations / Wax Questions

I am looking at Meerschaums again and I found a few I like... one of them is from Altinok and they said they coated the pipe in a brown beeswax... as opposed to the clear beeswax... Assuming that this brown beeswax explains the brownish sheen of the pipe, Will the pipe eventually lighten back to...

    Maybe it's a winner, maybe it's a loser... we'll see The Volcan

PAD has been so strong these past two months that now I am buying pipes out of curiosity. I have truly acquired some really nice ones these past few months. Last night I couldn't sleep. I pinched a nerve in my neck and I am on all sorts of pain meds... (I don't even drink) so the meds really...

If You Like Burley... Could You Recommend Your Fav?

I have avoided Burley dominant blends for years... They always burned my tongue... did nothing for me... I don't recall the Burley blends I had initially tried... I believe they were popular tinned tobacco of a few years ago (McClelend etc). A couple months ago, someone posted about UHLES...

    Bill Taylor Pipes

These Peretti Bill Taylors have been up for several months and no one bought one until today. There were 3, now there are 2. My question is... can I expect similar quality in a Bill Taylor Peretti as in an Ashton Bill Taylor? Or did Bill Taylor make several grades of pipes for different vendors...

Anyone tempted by one of those Hilson Vintage from Rainer Barbi?

You've probably seen P&C promoting them for about $80 each... http://www.pipesandcigars.com/pipes/hilson-vintage-by-rainer-barbi/ I'm seriously considering adding a 7th pipe to my Nov-January PAD run... the straight bulldog. Or perhaps I'll suppress the urge for pipes 7-12 and then be able to...

Question about the shape of a pipe and the way it smokes

Most of the pipes I own have a similar shape... mostly straight or 1/4 bent... billiards, apples, acorns, princes etc... The most unique shape I own is a bulldog ;-) I am looking at a couple of shapes and I was wondering if anyone could elaborate on "how" they tend to smoke. #1 - Chimneys/Stacks...
