Found This in My Local B+M Today

I know, I know. It was just yesterday that I chimed in on a thread and said I don't care for Savinellis much. But this one spoke to me. I was told it is a Savinelli Autograph second. A beautiful pipe nonetheless. Especially for around $100 unsmoked. The only stampings are Italy and Hand...

Longer Pipes - Do You Have a Favorite?

I'm not sure whether I want a churchwarden or a longer pipe like an oversized Canadian or Lumberman. Do you have a favorite pipe that is around 7 inches or longer? I'm looking for ideas or perhaps inspiration.

Who Is Our Resident Charatan Expert?

Who is our resident Charatan expert or knowledgeable about these pipes? I'm looking at a couple different ones and I could use advice. I can post the advice here or PM you. Thanks. Edited by jvnshr: Title capitalization.

    Fabrizio Romeo Pipes

Does anyone know about Fabrizio Romeo? I love his work. In particular, his sandblasts. The only person I see selling his pipes and that has info on him is The Pipe Tart. She hasn't updated some of her pages in a couple years. Makes me nervous buying there... Has anyone bought from there?

    The Quality of the Briar

After reading Fred Hanna's excellent essay reposted here the other day ( http://www.greatnorthernpipeclub.org/Myth.htm), it seemed clear to me that above brand name, it is the quality of the briar used that would have the most profound impact on flavor and on how well a pipe smokes. (Quality of...

    Flyfishing: Check In

I didn't want to hijack the thread on favorite pipe artisan, so I'll ask here: who flyfishes? Where do you fish? I'll start. My pop inducted me into fly fishing in my early teens. We are from upstate NY, so I primarily fish streams around the Finger Lakes. I also Flyfish on the west branch of...

    Sugar Barrel, Sugar Cask

During one of the many recent P+C sales, I picked up a gigantic tub of Sugar Cask for under $20. I never tried Sugar Barrel, but it sounded like something I might like. (I completely judged a book by its cover). The thing is that this Sugar Cask is very close to something I'd love. It is so...

    Ben Wade Pipe Question: identification

I'm looking at possibly buying this nice little Ben Wade Pot from Peretti's. It's a small rusticated pot with a silver band from Les at Ferndown. I've always been pleased with my purchases from Peretti's, but I can't really find any info out about this pipe. I've looked all over the internet...

    Question about Upshalls and Charatans...

Hey friends. Forgive my ignorance. I have been researching this for a few days and I am still a bit unclear. #1 The "new" Upshalls that are currently on eBay for sale from Upshall etc... Are these the same quality as Upshall pipes that were being made in the 1970's? 1980's? I see more vintage...

Going to New Orleans in a few weeks... Have any suggestions for fun?

I haven't been to New Orleans since 1994-95. I am going with my lady in mid April for about a week. We are staying at a nice hotel in the French Quarter. Do you have any "can't miss/gotta do" suggestions? I'm not the slightest bit worried about food because it's one of the best places to eat in...

Søren Refbjerg. - anyone have one?

A few of his pipes caught my eye at The Danish Pipe Shop. Lots of great pipes out there. Any reason I should grab one of these? Anyone love theirs? Thanks.

Licorice, Sambuca, Anise, Ouzo Flavored Aromatic?

With Ramsgate and Blackpool difficult to acquire, do you know any other available blends that have this flavor? Preferably stronger than Blackpool and Ramsgate. I am tempted to get some of Paul Olsen's "Lakrids" but it's like $35 for 100gs (including shipping from Denmark).

I LOVE GL PEASE KEY LARGO any other suggestions?

I like Key Largo a lot... I also like Perretti's Cuban Mixture and Tobac Manil Semois. Any other suggestions for something I might like that I may have not tried? Thanks. PS: If you are a Key Largo lover, what do you smoke it in? I use a shorter, wider bowl or a Bulldog/Rhodesian.

New Briar and Bamboo by a forum member

I had to show this off. I got it in the mail yesterday. This morning, I decided it was 3 Oaks Syrian. This pipe is 6+ inches long. Lightweight. One of the best fit and finishes I have experienced. Smokes beautifully. Very Happy! Thanks rx2man

    Looking for a good Meer?

Just thought I'd pass this info along as I pulled the trigger on what I thought was a pretty irresistible price. For the past couple of months I have been obsessing over what Meerschaum pipe I should buy... going back and forth between Altinok, WGM and Meerqueen. They are all quite good. As I...

What Do You Think About Neerup Pipes?

Neerup pipes don't seem terribly expensive and from what I have gathered, they are well made and typically smoke well. Some folks say they are a good value. I was wondering what you might think about Neerup's $80-$200 pipes? What should I expect in terms of fit and finish and smoking quality? -G

Tobacco Recommendations for flakes and cakes

I really like Condor Long Cut, Ennerdale Flake, St. Bruno Flake, Ennerdale Flake, War Horse Bar and Black Parrot (flake). I was wondering if you'd recommend: Curly Special by Peter H., Three Nuns, Solani Virginia Flake, Solani Tropical Mango Flake or McConnell's Scottish Flake. I want something...

My Favorite Shape: the Skater. Know of Any out There for Sale?

I have searched all over the place and it's tough to find a good looking, new skater. I recently bought a vintage Hilson skater at P&C for $50. It's nice but it's not quite as nice as I would have liked. A bit small. Seems very machined. There's a beautiful Beckler Meer at smokingpipes. I...

What tobacco(s) would you use for the pipe shapes I have pictured here?

Hi friends. I am looking for a little feedback. I have several new pipes that I just can't seem to light. I plan to smoke them but I can't make up my mind what to break them in with. I want to show you a few pipes and based on what you see and read, what tobacco might you choose to use in this...

Thanksgiving: After you feasted, what did you smoke?

I packed an elf-cobbit churchwarden with a full bowl of Dan Tobacco's Devil's Holiday and puffed slowly for about thirty minutes. It was bliss... Then I did dishes. my next two bowls were: Boston's Best from Peretti's and Le Petite Robin from Tabac Manil...
