    First Crumble Cake

I almost always fully rub out crumble cakes, dry as needed, and gravity fill. I find that if I just break into chunks, I have more trouble controlling the moisture content and end up with smokes that are too wet.

Why do You Smoke a Pipe?

Well, I started in earnest because it was cheaper and a lower nic dose than a cigar. I used to dabble in both pipes and cigars, and when I started writing my dissertation I found that my creative juices were stimulated by smoking a cigar. Well, on a grad school budget, I couldn't afford to...

    Ad from the '80's

A little later than this, but I remember in the early 90s, lusting after the computer equipment in the Frys electronics ads. I really wanted that 4gb hard drive that was 500 bucks. Now I don’t even think I own a flash drive that’s as SMALL as 4gb

C&D Sunbear 2021 Edition “Black Locust”

I picked up 5 tins, and added a few Pease blends to the mix since they are still 15% off. Probably not gonna even open the Sun Bear for a year or so though.

C&D Sunbear 2021 Edition “Black Locust”

Well, crap. I’m trying not to buy any more tobacco right now but I’m gonna have to get a few tins of this one. Sun bear fresh=ok Sun bear with at least 9 months in the cellar= superb.

What's the Minimal Number of Pipes for Good Smoking

Four sounds about right. One for Latakia, one for Lakeland blends, and two for everything else.

    Moving Sucks.

Good God you’re right. Moving just sucks. We’re likely moving cross country later this summer and I’m dreading it all, especially packing up the hundred plus jars of tobacco that have accumulated during the last move.

    Too Hot To Smoke!

Yep. Late summer and fall are going to be brutal. We just had our driest year on record here in Tucson. That’s right. The driest year in an already very dry desert. 4 inches of precipitation for the year. I think as we see climate change further develop we’re gonna see a lot more of...

    Too Hot To Smoke!

I know what you mean. I lived in Minnesota for 15 yrs before moving to Tucson, and I have many memories of going for walks in single digit temps so I could have a cigar. In fact, for a Vikings playoff game one January, I turned the TV towards the balcony sliding door and had a Martini and an...

    Too Hot To Smoke!

Down here in the Sonoran Desert it's often too hot to smoke outside, and there are nights during the summer when I am sweating my ass off trying to have a midnight bowl while the temps dip below 95. It seems like there's been a lot of those this June. It's not ideal, but it is temporary, and...

    Marlin Flake...

Update: Inspired by this thread, during a late night dog walk, I just smoked some 2014 Marlin Flake that was gifted to me in a tobacco bomb by @ashdigger. I dried it about 20 min and it smoked beautifully. Delicious!

    Marlin Flake...

I love Marlin Flake. I love all three of Rattrays Big Three Va blends, and I’m never unhappy with OG or HOTW in my pipe, but Marlin Flake is my favorite and the one I’ve chosen to cellar. I fully rub it out, and I give it a light dry time. Definitely more than 5 min but it doesn’t need...

Found an Old Bag of Ennerdale Flake

Yes. You've probably got some perfectly smokable Ennerdale, no drying time needed, and Ennerdale is so heavily sauced that you'll still have plenty of sweet lakeland presence.

Do You Have a Lakeland Pipe?

You're right. I mistyped. I smoke Ennerdale, and any of the sweet Lakelands out of the briar, and strong scented ones such as a Dark flake scented etc., Bosun, Conniston in the cob. I usually smoke rum flake out of whatever is lying around.

    Opera...

I’m a little late to comment on this one, but yeah, I love opera. I was introduced to the form in middle school through student dress rehearsals at the Portland Opera, and loved the shows, even as a middle schooler. One of the most seminal musical moments of my life came when I was 17 and...

1792 Small Batch Bourbon vs Costco 1792 Small Batch Bourbon

Leaving for a Costco trip in 5 minutes. I’m hoping this has made its way to southern Arizona.

Do You Have a Lakeland Pipe?

Yes, I have one Briar and one Cobb I smoke Lakelands out of. The briar is for Ennerdale and blends with that sort of sauce, the briar is for stronger blends such as rum flake. The lighter dressed blends get smoked out of a va/VaPer pipe. Which leads me to a follow up question: For those of...

Do You Have a Lakeland Pipe?

Ennerdale dropped in the big Gawith drop back in January. Only available on bulk, I think. Word on the street is that it will be available a little more frequently now that Gawith has a different distributor in the US.

What Do You Smoke Out of Your Biggest Bowl?

This right here. The Castello “G” and the MM General are for when I have the time and situation to slowly enjoy a 90-100 minute smoke. Generally then, it’ll be one of my favorite Va/VaPer/VaOr blends such as Fillmore or Bijou. Broken flake burns great in a big bowl.

HS Studio / Road Town Pipes

I have three of these. I bought the first one without looking too closely at the dimensions. It's really small and I almost never smoke it. My second one is a fine smoker and is used for Lakeland blends. My third one is pretty much a Savinelli 122 clone, and it has developed into a fantastic...
