    Foggy Mountain Nirvana (Aged ODF)

Today I got my package from Foggy Mountain. I popped open a 5 year old tin of Mac Baren's HH Old Dark Fired. I peeled a perfect flake from the top and rubbed it out. It filled my Viking Classic Bent Dublin exactly to the rim. It's burning slowly and well mannered with a flavor from the heavens...

    Cornell & Diehl Sea Scoundrels

I just noticed these. Are they new? Anyone tried the Privateer or Sea Dog? If so, please share opinions. What I really like about Pirate Kake and Black Frigate is the lack of Virginias, so I'm hesitant on these others. Thanks.

    Hurricane Smoking

As I enjoy a pipe on the front porch, watching the trees bend, I notice that 100% humidity slows down the burn a bit. Also, the normally small, grey ash is replaced with larger chunks of light and dark colored ash. What are your inclement smoking observations?

Mama's Birthday Pilgrimage. Trip Notes As Promised.

Mrs. Jaytex969 and I left Austin, TX on 8/17. We arrived in Nashville, TN on 8/18. Her son lives there, her birthday was 8/20 and the eclipse was total there on 8/21. After the eclipse, I dragged them all to BriarWorks to meet with one of our site sponsors. From there, we spent a few days from...

Site Sponsor Visit, Eclipse, Historic Tobacco Coming Soon...

I'm currently having a pipe of Pirate Kake and getting inebriated in the side yard of a Natchez Bed & Breakfast. Soon, however, I'll be home and will give an accounting of my travels to Nashville, my visit with Briarworks and the end of my quest for a poker style pipe. Also included, goofy...

    Define Plateau Please.

A recently closed thread veered into discussion of plateau in pipe carving. Can someone describe this, in relation to briar? Thanks.

    Chacom or Jobey?

I'm questing for a poker variant. I've found older, unsmoked examples of each, $50-70 or so. Please offer your observations on these two producers. Thanks.

    Question About WTB Posts.

I noticed that the tobacco trading section allows WTB posts but the pipe trading section disallows it. If one were seeking a specific type of pipe and wanted to canvass the forum membership before seeking elsewhere, is there an area where this is acceptable? Thanks.

My Favorite Vanilla Is PS's Highland Whisk(E)Y

During the recent Peter Stokkebye sale, I decided to branch out a little and I ordered some Highland Whiskey. Since I enjoyed the rum in Black Frigate and the Sherry essence in Irish Oak, this sounded reasonable. There's a slight whiskey resemblance in the tin and every so often in the pipe, if...

    Look, Ma! No Training Wheels!

I am still wearing the helmet and sticking to the cul-de-sac for now, but I believe I've made some progress in my enjoyment of VA flake. I've rubbed out and smoked some of the Peter Stokkebye's Luxury Navy Flake about three times now. Today, I was able to get the nice, even and mild "center of...

    Man Overboard!

Got in from work a few hours early today. Gonna go see Dunkirk shortly. Got a nice shower and filled my water jug. Sat to load the trusty generic German #136 for a short cruise aboard the Frigate.... Oh, NOOOOO.... Me pegleg got ensnared in a crack and over the side I went. Splash! The damned...

Got My Stokkebye's Sale Goodies Today WOOHOO!

Never tried any of their stuff before. I got some English Luxury, Highland Whiskey, Luxury Bullseye Flake and Luxury Navy Flake. Now, I need more jars. Have I gotten myself into a never ending loop here?? :puffy: Just loaded up some of the English...

    Darvill Pipe?

I snagged this pipe on eBay, as I thought it would make a nice small companion to the KS and EX Roma series Sav's I've acquired. I was unable to find much on the name via the web. If anyone is familiar, please feel free to educate me. Auction Link Thanks.

    Virginia with Training Wheels

The first few times I dealt with VA's, I had a terrible time. Mainly with the McClelland's Red & Black. Many of you explained that the Virginias required patience and developed technique to enjoy fully. I'm working on one of those qualities and the other may never come... I've read numerous...

    Savinelli "Shooting Star" Logo?

Just cruisin' through the estate pipes and saw one with this "shooting star" on the stem. What is the significance of this? Thanks.

    Vacation/Travel With Pipes.

I have a week of travel coming up soon. Looking at the pipe rack and the open tin chest, I'm hoping to strike a balance between variety and portability. Especially as I am on two wheels and space is a premium. I'd like to know how little/much some of you have found appropriate for traveling. I'm...

    Savinelli Bowl Sizes

Good morning, Dottle Makers. I just snagged this pipe on evilBay. Auction Link My current Savinelli's have KS sized bowls. THis one is listed as an EX. Which is bigger? Is there a chart somewhere showing Savinelli bowl sizes? Thanks.

What Are Your Favorite Non-VA Tobaccos?

I would like to explore the VA free sector a bit. Please share your findings. Thanks.

First Impression: Black Irish X Rope

AKA: Getting your butt kicked and liking it. Normally, I finish the bowl before I write the impression. I suspect, however, that my wife will come home to find me unconscious and drooling on the floor before I wrap up this load. I got a 500 gram package of this from the buroak sale. Today, I...

    Favorite YouTube Reviewers

Oldmansmoking mentioned the reviewer Stuff And Things in the thread on Squadron Leader's history. I, too, have found his reviews enjoyable. Informative and well presented. Who are some of your favorite YouTube reviewers? Happy Friday!
