What is a Cool, Mild, Medium-Sweet, everyday Smoke?

As others have noted, so far you’ve been smoking aromatics. There is a wide range of blends in this category, some that put flavorings/aroma forward and some that put tobacco forward. So far, you’ve focused mostly on those that emphasize aroma (for those around you) over tobacco—with Autumn...

Has Anyone Tried C&D St. P’s Day 2023 Reserve?

Not enough blends have capitalized on the posterior retrohale.

    Let’s Talk about Two Friends

Thanks for that great write-up! Much appreciated. Would it be accurate to guess that the “unsweetened cocoa” you’ve experienced is in blends like GH’s Bob’s Chocolate Flake? (That’s one of my favorites.)

Proper tobacco storage from a tin

Once I open a tin for smoking, the contents go into a latch-top jar. Since I keep several tobaccos “open” at a time, jarring a tin like this guarantees that it will still be properly humidified whenever I come back to it, which may be weeks or even months.

    Malcom Guite Essay

I guess I can cop to sometimes being pedantic. Apologies. As someone who makes a living from words, I probably take infringement more seriously than most. It’s been drilled into me for my entire editing/writing career.

    Tobaccos I miss

Yes. I had a 50g tin of Bohemian Scandal that, when opened, was completely covered in mold. And not the sparkly “is it or isn’t it?” variety.

    Malcom Guite Essay

No one has the right to post lines from a copyrighted poem unless they own the copyright or have permission of the copyright holder. This isn’t me being cranky; it’s copyright law.

    Cobblestone: Outdoors Fishing

Guessing someone has, since it’s sold out on SP.com. ;) Did you see the reviews there?

    Tobaccos I miss

Not to sidetrack this thread too much, but… I think you are fortunate in this case, because I think that would make it easier to enjoy some of the Penzance wannabes that are on the market, including H&H’s Ten to Midnight and Bengal Slices/Lancers Slices. To me, these are all pale imitations...

    Which Tobacco after Which Meal?

I’m not sure why you think this is being done. I certainly don’t smoke for the nicotine; I don’t enjoy the effects of nicotine in tobacco, so I avoid anything past the mid-way point of strength. I don’t need a specific kind of meal or time of day to help me appreciate the tobaccos I already...

Not smoking pipe for 10 plus days

What wouldn’t be okay about this? What are you worried about?

    Query on Pipe Smoking

I’ve been smoking for—damn it, you’re making me do math!—for 43 years now. My bowls-a-day has changed significantly over that period of time, as you might imagine. At my peak, I was at about 8-10 bowls a day, which would be my preference if life allowed. Currently only about a half-dozen a week...

    Tobaccos I miss

The problem I ran into, though, is that I enjoyed my favorite blend fresh. Although, technically, it’s still available—Penzance—I ended up selling off all of my cellared tins because I found that it lost something over time that I really enjoyed about the blend. After three years or so in the...

    Tobaccos I miss

Just a note that almost all of the names have changed since Jim’s post. They were originally much closer to the Dunhill originals…but apparently too close. (Watch City Cigar does a great job matching the new McConnell names to their Dunhill equivalents.)

    Tobaccos I miss

For me, there are two lost blends that have left lasting impressions: A&C Petersen’s Curly-Cut Melange No. 410 and GL Pease’s Bohemian Scandal.

    Tobaccos I miss

I don’t know what you’re reading, but McConnell themselves call it a clone.

    Tobaccos I miss

You’re not looking hard enough. McConnell has released their “Heritage” range of Dunhill clones, which includes versions of 3-Year Matured, The Aperitif, Durbar, Baby’s Bottom, London Mixture, and more. My suspicion--and I haven’t yet tried any of these to compare them with the STG...

    Which Tobacco after Which Meal?

I tried considering the OP‘s question, but the underlying idea doesn’t jibe in any way with how I think about tobacco or pipe smoking.

How Come We Don't See Anyone Joining From Algeria?

Curious how/why you landed on Algeria. I’m guessing that there are lots of countries that aren’t represented here. Oh: Did Algeria stand out to you because of the country’s history related to pipes?
