    Purchasing dilemma...

Definitely two of each or three. Quality over quantity. Check reviews and do your investigation to narrow it down to 7. So it's 21 tins but what's 1 extra. With three you can have one now, a year from now and three years from now to see if aging plays any role in your perception of the blend...

How long are the "scents" good for?

I have fragrant floral tobacco from LJP that is 5 years old and nothing lost. I use a mechanical device to suck out the air from the mason jars I use. Avail on AMZ. You could try to jar your tobacco leaving lids off place tobacco filled jar into preheated oven 200F for 20 mins and then take out...

Help getting started with first pipes, tobacco, etc.

Missouri Meerschaum. Start there. Any cob will work. Briars from the major brands, you know them, between 100 and 250 are very good quality and probably won't be able to tell much difference give or take until you gain experience perhaps. After about 250 through 400 you start to get fancy things...

    Jar Lid Pop

Tobacco ferments and temperature changes can either create or remove vacuum. If your mason lids on Mason jars pop up and down it has no vacuum. If it does not pop up and down it has vacuum. If it used to have a vacuum and now pops up and down then your tobacco ferments and creates gas to fill...

    Say Whatcha Want About STG...

And 35 percent off nording pipes is a good deal too. Grabbed one myself. Can't really go wrong with that deal for a nice pipe.

    McClelland may be closing.

Well I for one added to my stash with the 20 percent off Sutliff bulk sale today at sp.com. In my state they could ban anything at anytime so I'm always ready. Love to move to anywhere but here but wife loves it here. The taxes are way more cheap than leaving. And I've been smoking a pipe for 35...

    Beginner: Corncob Pipe smell plastic-ish

Sometimes I've noticed aromatics use certain flavoring compounds perhaps synthetic perhaps not. Synthetics can sometimes taste off. A new cob especially and sometimes well worn cobs have a sweetness to them that may or may not be something to be enjoyed. Perhaps it's the combination of the...

    Puffing a Pipe

A fourth way I use from time to time is to intake air without a good seal around the stem. Reduces the amount of air drawn. All the methods described aim to reduce the amount of air drawn. The tobacco should smoulder not burn.

    Home Infusions?

Very lightly misting grain alcohol based infusions of natural flavoring compounds adds depth to aromatics. I make a vanilla extract using 10% by weight grade b vanilla beans and graves grain alcohol. Coffee beans, cacao nibs, heavily aromatic gins, bay leaves, allspice berries, these all work...

    The Virtue of Dry?

As I see it the long hollow tube form of tobacco causes the tobacco to burn hotter with more air. In this form, dry tobacco burns even hotter running the taste. In the form of flakes ribbons and cubes the air flow is less and burns cooler so drier tobacco in these forms burns at the correct...

    Mason Jars With a Latch

Personally I like the standard ones. I can replace the lids any time easily. These types you show seem to me to loose sealing power over time from the gasket wearing out and they are hard to open for my hands. But that's just my opinion. Try it and see if you like them. They do seal well when new.

Tobacco pouches/ leather bags why do they exist?

Depending on the tobacco it might never dry out - some aromatics fall into this category. I would estimate many who think a particular tobacco is too dry isn't really dry at all. I would further propose that particular tobacco to be perfectly dry for a great smoke.

    Leaf Only in a Jar

Leafonly is walking distance from my house. I get all my leaf tobacco from those great folks. I mainly blend VA all types, Perique, Izmir, Basma and Samsun. I have several pounds of leaves aging some which are left natural, some I stoved and some I steamed. I make plugs and then slice them with...

    Pipe for clenching

The bowl shape to me doesn't play a part unless it's totally something outlandish. Typical bowl shapes work well. The degree of bend will make it more or less land on your chin. I'd guess a 60 to 90 degree bend give or take.

    Pipe for clenching

Anything bent to a noticable degree would work but I've clenched straight pipes and slightly curved sav ks authors no issues. Depends on the physicality of your muscles and how well you use the lips not necessarily the teeth.
