Any Magazine Readers? - The Type Printed On Paper That Is

I subscribe to the New Yorker on my Kindle — you still get the cartoons. Living in a remote area and having bad eyesight the Kindle is quite hand that way.

    Tea For Pipe Smokers

I very much into tea. Lanpsang Souchong is very good with Englishes, as noted. I have Puehr, oolongs, jasmine, greens and herbals. Tea is constant companion to my smoke of choice.

    C&D Pirates Kake

Personal opinion — I find Pirate Kake to be a little much, and I do like latakia. Ten Russians, I'm fine with it. Pirate Kake, not so much. I have several tins of the latter and have them socked away, hoping they will mellow with time.

    Recent Pease/C&D tins too dry?

I live on Pease tobaccos and they're just fine out of the can.

    Anybody from South Carolina?

Also, you might want to be careful about college football. They take their Clemson-South Carolina very seriously. Or South Carolina-Clemson, if you will. BTW, shrimp and grits!

    Pipes at Altitude

OK, I smoke pipes here in the Central Rockies every day at about 7,800 feet. I often go to San Francisco, sea level, for family and notice no difference. What I do notice is that tobacco burns hotter in South Carolina during the summer, golf vacation, which I chalk up to much more heat and...

Nova Scotia to ban flavored tobacco

Seriously, what kids (under 18) use pipes and pipe tobacco as their entry to the so-called evil of tobacco usage? If a kid is smoking a pipe, he or she is not smoking tobacco in it. Cigarettes like Marlboros, menthols and so on are the entry to tobacco. No need for any government to legislate...

Huge Price Increase on MacBaren Tins

Plenty of other blenders out there. And better ones too. It's my own taste, but MacBaren doesn't make anything that makes me go, "Wow." So good luck with that price increase.

    GLP Quiet Nights

I'm just chiming in here to say that I had a really good smoke with Quiet Nights last night in a Barling pot. Darn fine. Tin was a year old.

San Francisco Giants Tobacco Chewing To Be Banned from City's Stadium

First off, good luck telling manager Bruce Bochy to stop. He has three rings, so the cops ain't coming for him. Second, how are they going to enforce this. From one who already had a pinch on Opening Day in San Francisco.

    The Captstans

Weird, sjfine. I am conducting The Great Virginia Experiment, which means as a longtime English/Latakia/Balkan smoker, am dipping my toes into the world of Virginia flake. Capstan Gold is my first tin, and I've not had an issue with it. I find it surprisingly cool and very pleasant. (I had some...

    GLP Quiet Nights

I have started aging GLP tins, but I find that even if you smoke new GLP tins, you have to try at least a tin, and likely more than one. GLP grows on you. For instance, I never got into my first tin of Odyssey. Two tins or so later, it would be one of the tins I would take to the proverbial...

I want to explore Virginias, but ...

@Buroak ... I live in the mountains of Colorado, so humidity is nonexistent. I do dry my tobacco when needed. At my condo in South Carolina, I leave the tobacco inside where it's air-conditioned and less humid. I golf in the morning when it's nice and then return for reading and puffing, and...

I want to explore Virginias, but ...

Thank you all. Regardless if it's the Englishes are heavy or burn hot in hotter weather, I am trying a bunch of the suggestion for VA flakes. Hey, why not? It's an excuse to try more tobacco.

Are These the Glory Days for Number of Blends?

As one who lives in rural Colorado now and working in a pipe shop about 20 years ago, yes. Even working at a pipe/cigar shop, where the owner was really more of a pipe man, there is no way to match the availability of blends today. I know people rue the passing of some blends or the...

I want to explore Virginias, but ...

@Daimyo I didn't put it in my original post, but Royal Yacht has kicked the heck out of me. I know that's a blend which some really like and others really don't. That's why there are seemingly millions of blends out there. To each their own.

I want to explore Virginias, but ...

I go for two-plus weeks to Myrtle Beach to play golf — and visit the actual smoking pipes store, an added bonus. I had different pipes, different Englishes on my patio overlooking the golf course — nice view, and it was, for me, a hot smoke. In Colorado, where I live, never happens. Never...
