I want to explore Virginias, but ...

OK, I'm a serious lover of whatever we call English, Balkan, latakia-based tobaccos. Favorites include GLP's Odyssey, Quiet Nights, really anything Pease, Russ' Larry's Blend, Dan Tobacco's Old Ironsides, Esoterica's Margate, And so to Bed and, Penzance, SPC's Plum Pudding. The thing is I live...

    Famous pipe smoking golfer

I smoke a pipe while chipping near the green and putting. To hang onto the pipe, you have to keep your head still. That's also good for the golf. Zitotczito, I have my regular rotation which is smoked on the imperial couch and then I have a few pipes for golf, which are already a bit dinged up...

    I have a (Sixpence) theory...

As a crazy Giants fan, I like that theory, even though I don't smoke straight Virginias. GLP is from the Bay Area. I believe he worked at Druquers (sp.?), an old tobacco shop in the East Bay. Hence, his Fog City collection, which are all named for streets or neighborhoods in the city. Since I...

    Cellaring Latakia

I cellar latakia blends all the time. As Escioe said, it can mellow the latakia, which for my taste with Pirate Kake, is a definite must. That is the one blend, as a latakia-phile, that is too much for me. That said. I have 10 tins in my closet/cellar which I will revisit in a few years.

    "Drinking Latakia"

Lapsang souchong is one of the great teas and in my rotation. I rotate teas just as I do pipe tobaccos.

    Unsmoked Barling = $1,425

First off, I appreciate Sablebrush's commentary on Barlings/Barling's(es). (What is the plural there, especially if you're into pre-transition?) As a Barling collector myself, thanks for your contributions. Where I am different than some collectors is that I buy a pipe to smoke it. If...

    1959 Dunhill Shell Pot

Happy smoking, and congratulations on the birth year Dunhill. BTW, why is Dunhill considered a misspelling on a pipes' site? Also, the computer tells me that latakia is misspelled. Just funny.

    Smoking Pipes vs. Smoking Cigars

I like both. However, I smoke a pipe more than a cigar for many of the reasons listed above — different pipes are fun, different tobaccos, packing a pipe, cleaning a pipe. Monetary considerations, while very valid with regard to the cost of a tin of pipe tobacco and a box of cigars, isn't a huge...

My Son is Interested in Pipes

Smoking a pipe/cigar with my father was one of the few things we had in common. Pop got very excited when I turned 16 and gave me a cigar that knocked me on my you know what. I actually got interested in pipes and cigars on my own in college, and Pop was happy to share. It was a good thing. (As...

    What are your other hobbies?

Reading. A good book with my pipe and my tea, and I'm a happy person. I am also a baseball fan, so the San Francisco Giants are pretty much religion, and the last five years have made for happy puffing. In the summer, aka non-snowing times, I swat at a golf ball with oddly shaped mallets.

    Any golfers here?

Yes, serious, but poor golfer. I usually smoke cigars on the golf course as I don't have many pipes that I wouldn't worry about dropping, leaving in the cart, etc. When I vacation in Myrtle Beach, the pipes come out after the round.

What's Your All Time "WORST" Beers List?

Anything I drank in college, way back when. But Natty Lite had to take the cake. I think a 12 pack was $3-4. Yeesh.

    That Free P&C Knife....

OK, I had no idea that you got a knife with a certain amount ordered, so I was surprised to receive it. Yep, I'll be using that with GLP Gaslight.

Congratulations on two years. I appreciate all of Brian's and Kevin's work in bringing this show to us weekly. Nice job, Kevin on filling in! Here's to many more years of the show.

    Showoff Your Dunhill Pipes Here!

And FoggyMountain wins the contest for obsessive Dunhill collector. I mean that in the nicest way. That's a beaut. I have eight, I think, but I'm technologically incompetent and can't post a picture.
