Makes sense to me. There are blends I won't smoke in a cob because I don't like them as much as in a briar. Different materials will of course affect the smoke, as they'll absorb or trap various flavor molecules that other materials wouldn't. Yeah, that was made by McC, so I don't think you'll see it again. Though, I have heard tell their flakes are coming back in stock, but may "taste different". So maybe they're keeping the flake names, but sourcing them elsewhere.- pipesmokingtom

At least I don't think I've had it happen. It's certainly possible - and maybe probable that a seal fails in such a way there's no way to actually detect it. Like Jesse says - maybe the seal is "good enough" that it last "long enough" to not notice an appreciable change in the tobacco by the...- pipesmokingtom

I find that tins are actually sealed. Certainly well enough that there is no moisture exchange unless the seal fails (which I've never had happen.) Are aroma molecules smaller than water and allow smells though but not moisture or air? Certainly that can't be the case.- pipesmokingtom

Maybe this is another thread, but since it has to do with aging. Flat friction sealed tins are always referred to as "vacuum" sealed. Can anyone verify this is actually the case. I've always sort of intuitively assumed they're just packed really tight and then sealed, no vacuum involved. They...- pipesmokingtom
