Guess What? You Actually Don't Like the Tobaccos You THINK You Do.

Makes sense to me. There are blends I won't smoke in a cob because I don't like them as much as in a briar. Different materials will of course affect the smoke, as they'll absorb or trap various flavor molecules that other materials wouldn't. There are also blends I won't smoke in a pipe, but...

    Makes Me Want to Cry...

Sounds like a great new nickname for my hog. Sorry.

    Dark Star Replacement

It was a rebadged something McClelland, maybe with a minor top note variation? At any rate, even tobaccoreviews says their flakes are being sourced elsewhere as of March 2018. I don't know who made that edit, though.

    Dark Star Replacement

That would be internet gossip. BUT, the fella said he just bought some London Flake at the shop (OOS on their website) and was told at the shop that flakes would be back in stock, but would be different flakes under the same names. Obviously this is second-hand information, third by the time...

    Dark Star Replacement

Yeah, that was made by McC, so I don't think you'll see it again. Though, I have heard tell their flakes are coming back in stock, but may "taste different". So maybe they're keeping the flake names, but sourcing them elsewhere.

You'd always end up having to add more.

After Aging, Smoke Within This Date

At least I don't think I've had it happen. It's certainly possible - and maybe probable that a seal fails in such a way there's no way to actually detect it. Like Jesse says - maybe the seal is "good enough" that it last "long enough" to not notice an appreciable change in the tobacco by the...

After Aging, Smoke Within This Date

I find that tins are actually sealed. Certainly well enough that there is no moisture exchange unless the seal fails (which I've never had happen.) Are aroma molecules smaller than water and allow smells though but not moisture or air? Certainly that can't be the case.

Tom, the NWPipeSmoker on Radio Show of March 13, 2018

Name is Tom, smokes a pipe, lives in the NW and sports a formidable tache. What's not to like?

After Aging, Smoke Within This Date

Maybe this is another thread, but since it has to do with aging. Flat friction sealed tins are always referred to as "vacuum" sealed. Can anyone verify this is actually the case. I've always sort of intuitively assumed they're just packed really tight and then sealed, no vacuum involved. They...

Smell War Horse? Don't Be Fooled!

Except when it's raining, you know it. Popping lids can be pretty "jarring." Ha. I'm awesome.

    One Cob for One Year

So, it's a ~6.00 pipe.. you smoke Carter Hall exclusively, right? By my math, you're smoking for just about .50 cents a day, and that will only get better the longer the cob lasts. I like it!

    Dark Star Replacement

COULD we be correct in calling Dark Star a Cavendish? I remember briefly having this discussion with someone. I read somewhere that it is steam pressed, which is functionally what Cavendish-ing is, yes?

    My New Rattray's Bent Pot.

I have a can of Mac Baren Virginia #1 that looks like someone played soccer with it. I'm assuming the tobacco is fine inside.

Estate Pipes Are Scarce over Here

I've had zero luck buying any decent pipes in antique stores. When I see them at all, they're overpriced.
