    Dunhill

The opposite to Dunhill were Frederic and Rueben Charatan, who it seems to me, had a passion for pipes. Another good example is Giancarlo Guidi.
  2. C

    Dunhill

Yes, the man did sell everything that was bringing money.
  3. C

    Dunhill

Fair enough, but what if you are given the choice between two products from the same price segment?
  4. C

    Dunhill

Buying competitors brands, copying of other makers unpatented inventions and slightly changing and patenting them. Besides that for A. Dunhill it was never about making/loving pipes, but only about money. And there are many opposite examples of high end pipe makers.

    Dunhill

I own two Dunhills estate pipes in a mint condition One is group 4 straight billiard from 2013. The other same shape, but a group 3 from 2001 Payed 270 (group 4 was in like new condition) and 160 dollar respectively. I like their esthetic and they seem to be good smokers, but they smoke...

For everyone out there who is interested in buying a Ser Jacopo pipe, I highly recommend Rob Siegel (Eandtee on Ebay). Not only does he has great prices and is very knowledgable about SJ pipes ( He was the SJ agent from 1981 to 2016, and knew Giancarlo well), he is also a real getnleman and...

Looking For Info On First/Earliest Castello Pipes

The article about Castello on Pipedia got me interested in the early Castello pipes. https://pipedia.org/wiki/Castello There its stated that the first Castello pipes made by Scotti were small pipes of Searock finish. A picture of an early pipe is attached there as well. Where can I find more...

Is Rustication An Iconic Future Of Italian Pipes?

So many interesting thoughts and insights! Of course italian pipe makers have also an wide variety of smooth parts on offer, but I do associate rustication with italian pipes. I also noticed that in the photos of the Ser Jacopo catalog of 1995/96, that were posted on the Ser Jacopo Italia...

Is Rustication An Iconic Future Of Italian Pipes?

When I am thinking of an iconic Italian pipe, I always imagine an rusticated one (like a Castello Searock or Ser Jacopo R1), similar to when I am thinking about an iconic English pipe, I imagine a smooth one (Dunhill bruyere for example). Is there truth to it, or is it only me?

Group Size 3 Pipe Seems To Be The Perfect Pipe Size (At Least For Me)

Haha, no no by received I mead bought. I was looking for a group 3 Dunhill billiard for a while. Have a group 4 one as well. Need to figure out if to keep it or sell it. :D

Group Size 3 Pipe Seems To Be The Perfect Pipe Size (At Least For Me)

I usually compare the measurments of a pipe (length, chamber depth) with the specs of the coresponding Dunhill pipes, so I can figure aproximately out, what size a pipe is. Its not exact science of course. I rarely see modern pipes made in group 1,2 and 3 sizes. Most are group 4 and larger.

Group Size 3 Pipe Seems To Be The Perfect Pipe Size (At Least For Me)

Received a Dunhill straight billiard recently and a Castello kk 65(which seems to be also around size 3), and I am pleasently surprised how great this bowl size is, not too big, not too small. I had a size 1 dunhill a while ago and usually have group size 4 pipes, which seems to be the standard...

    Charatan Size and Shapes Observation/Question

Thank you for your input Ken! Very nice. Its very difficult to find the Rueben Era pipes nowadays, and 100 Dollar would ve a fantastic price.

    Charatan Size and Shapes Observation/Question

Forgot to ask, what group size aproximately is the pipe?

    Charatan Size and Shapes Observation/Question

Thats a great looking pipe. Is this Lane Era?
  16. C

    Charatan Size and Shapes Observation/Question

By later ones, you mean Lane Era? Yes its a shame that there are not many pre Lane Charatans out there :(

    Charatan Size and Shapes Observation/Question

Been looking for a nice smaller Charatan straight billiard estate pipe for a while and I noticed one thing, mostly Charatan pipes are of a bigger size (group 5) and have saddle stems. Why is that the case? Were saddle stems most common? EDIT: Fixed Capitalization in Title - Bob

    German High-End Pipemakers?

So besides Design Berlin and Vauen, there are no other German factory pipe brands? What Vauen series would you guys consider top notch? Seems that Vauen makes pipes in a wide price range.
