    A Mysterious Bulldog

I spotted this pipe on eBay a while back and was immediately intrigued by it, I find the shape very appealing. But it’s a little strange in the sense that there is nearly zero indication who made it. There are some clues in what little stamping it has, but not many. It’s what I would describe...

    Presbyterian Reformation, Bulk Equivalent?

Does anyone know if there’s a bulk equivalent to Presbyterian Reformation Flake? I’ve heard Mocha Strips might be the same but I’m not sure.

    Post No.3000!

Hard to believe I've been here long enough to have made 3000 posts. Well anyway here is my three thousandth post.

    Rosebery Extra Meerschaum

This Rosebery meerschaum apple looks to have come by its color the hard way, by being smoked.. It was a little ashy when I got it and missing it stem. I cleaned it up and made a new stem for it from red amber acrylic rod stock. It’s worth noting that is an actual army mount and note a...

    Il Ceppo Tenon Repair.

I’ve been after an Il Ceppo billiard for a while now, their robust esthetics appeal to me. Since they aren’t sold widely in the US they can be difficult to come by. The other day a very stout, large, first period (1977-95) sandblast showed up on eBay with a broken tenon, I snapped it up for a...

    British Tobacconist’s Brand Pipes.

Let’s see those British house brand pipes, Singleton & Cole, Carrington, Salmon & Gluckstein, AGE, etc. Many of these tobacconists had their own factories, some had pipes made by other well known factories in GB and France. Here’s a 1920 A.G.E. EXTRA made by Salmon & Gluckstein.

    $1.4 Million Bottle of Scotch

If it sells for what they think it will, that works out to about $87,500 a glass. Anybody wanna go in with me? https://apnews.com/article/12f2fb5685e1a362165d03fe1ddd1eea

    Ashdigger’s 1904 Peterson Meer

After seeing the acrylic P-Lip’s I’d been making for some of my pipes @ashdigger asked me if I would make an acrylic P-Lip for his 1904 Peterson meer that Ryan Alden had saved and made 3 stems for. I’ve now dubbed this pipe the Swipe Pipe (Swatch Watch) because of its collection of...

The Filthiest Pipes I’ve Ever Restored.

A recent gift from our resident Sin City member (more on that later) prompted me to get out a couple of pipes I’d bought recently and start cleaning them up. These two early republic 307 system standards have got to be the most filthy pipes I have ever cleaned up. So far I’ve had ream the stem...

    Rust Bluing Twist Pattern Barrels.

I’ve had this old Belgian Neumann Bros hammer lock SxS 12g for many years but it wasn’t in the greatest shape, I inherited it from grandfather. I suspect it was a Sears Roebuck Catalog gun, probably a cheap one. I ran the prof marks on it once but I don’t remember the year, 1908 I think. A few...

    Your Favorite Pipes?

I’m not talking about your prized 1917 Dunhill Coronation or Castello KKKKKKK Chicco Di Patate. I’m talking about your reliable, faithful, never lets you down, go to pipes. The ones you grab when you’re running out the door, the ones you don’t even have to think about. The pipes that give you a...

Acrylic Amber P-Lip Hand Cut Stem.

I had this Wellington that I made a very large BC stem for awhile back but I wasn’t really happy with it. I hadn’t started cutting P-Lip stems yet. I decided to cut an AB style P-Lip with a bone chimney for it.

    I Don’t Just Repair Pipes.

A coworker brought in this Chrysler 2.7 exhaust manifold with a crack in and asked me if I could weld it up for him. Drilled each end of the crack to prevent further cracking. Cut a groove along the crack to allow the weld to lay flat and penetrate the crack. Set everything up to weld it...

New P-Lip Stem For a Pre-Republic “Sports” Prince.

Title says it all, pickup this nearly mint Pre-Republic “Sports” Prince sans stem for a song. Hand cut a new P-Lip stem for it. Used the measurements I found for an identical pipe sold on SP to work out the stem length and shape.

    Peterson Army Filter/System Convertable

Given my preference for acrylic and AB stems and Peterson’s lack of Acrylic or AB stemmed system pipes I did what any self respecting pipe repairman would do, I made one. I also reamed out the sump to be a proper well.

    Smooth Peterson Deluxe System Pipes?

Has anyone seen a new smooth Deluxe System in a while? I know there were a few smooth 9B's, I got one. But I haven't seen another smooth Deluxe System in a long time, I know they are fairly uncommon but I just can't believe they haven't had any briar worth a smooth in this long. If they can't...

    Hand Cut P-Lip.

Can a P-Lip be cut by hand? Yes! But I’m not real keen on doing it again, it’s a lot of work. I’m not going to go to in depth here or post too many pictures. If you want to see more keep an eye on Mark Irwin’s blog, Peterson Pipe Notes. But here it is, a Deluxe BC stem for a 20S. If you want...

    Replacing a Shamrock Tenon.

This is really more repairing a repair. Someone decided they would repair this Pre-Republic Shamrock Prince’s broken tenon with an aluminum threaded tenon like a meerschaum. They probably just wanted to return their smoking device to service again, and they accomplished that. But just good...

Show Off Your Non-Peterson System Pipes

Here’s a couple of 1930’s KB&B Chesterfields. Fist one is a Kaywoodie SuperGrain. Second hand me is a 1933-36 Yello Bole Chesterfield sandblast.
