A Cleaning Question and Another Estate Pipe ID

I dont think you can go wrong with a small knife to be honest, I find there's much more control. It's pretty easy to avoid scratching the bottom of the bowl to be honest. Ease the blade into the bowl as far down as you can, then put the blade flat on the cake with the blade at a 20 degree angle...

A beginner's Pipe Diary. Follow me on my pipe journey : )

Yes that's right, it's where I live. I'm not from here, but I'm rather unimaginative with names. I thought you might be from GB, nobody foreign goes away and drinks copious tea. As for your stem, the only thing I could suggest to get it out would be to superglue the original stem back on, stick...

A beginner's Pipe Diary. Follow me on my pipe journey : )

Glad to hear you enjoyed it. I can't help with the stem, but I 100% understand about sitting by the canal. I've just got back from bruges and there is nothing so relaxing as sitting in the sun by the canals smoking a nice pipe and watching the world go by with a beer. Good luck getting it...

    Massage vs. Pipe

Ahh they're two different pleasures. I can pay £4 for a Big Mac and large fries which is one of my favorite foods ever, or I can pay £100 for a steak and a bottle of champagne and enjoy that just as much, but it's just not the same pleasure. It's all rather profligate for me anyway.

I Am So Pissed At Myself Right Now I Could Die.

Send it back and say it came like that/it happened in normal wear, they should replace it free. Also, why would you bother cleaning it if you've never smoked it?

    'Cute' and Other Unmanly Expressions

I know what you mean, I feel awkward saying that particular word. It's not a manly word like gear, pint or England.

UNBELIEVABLE an early 1900 Alfred Dunhill Humidor pipe rack!

Good lord, that's absolutely hideous. Who on earth would commission that to be made?

    Am I The Only One?

I never buy estate pipes. I know I'm missing out on some bargains and my collection is rather hampered by the lack of then, but I find the idea simply unappealing. I know some folk say it's the same as having a knife and fork in a restaurant, but it isn't. If you eat a particularly spicy curry...

    Lost A Dental Crown

Probably for the best, the old fashioned way. I detest the dentist, haven't been in about 10 years. Got sick of paying £150+ for fillings I know I don't need. Unfortunately, dental work isn't free like the rest of healthcare in the uk, so I'm damned if I'm paying for it.

Oh, The Irony! Enemy of Smokers Arrested

Many happy returns from across the pond. I love politicians like this, they're such bastards you just know there's something dodgy going on. Over here they're usually serial womanisers or homosexuals, or more commonly these days, tax thieves.

    Pet peeves

Here's another one I've just discovered; websites that play music spontaneously. Goddamn that grinds my gears.

A Few Pics of My Cellar

I read somewhere that £5 billion was enough that no man could ever spend it all in his lifetime. I feel the same way about your cellar. Magnificent.

New to the forums ! (stories of your history with pipes)

I've been a smoker since I was about 12, ridiculously young it seems now, but since then it's always been a large part of my life. My uncle always smoked a pipe, and I find that like him, I find nothing more relaxing than sitting down having a smoke and reading the racing post. I've always...

    Recently started smoking a pipe

If recommend a Parker . I'm not sure how common they are in the United States, but in my opinion they're as true a smoke as you can get, and for a very reasonable sum. Hell, I'd you're looking to spend a bit, buy two. I agree with the comments on the acquisition of said materials being a large...

    What's A Good Springtime Blend?

Go for grousemoor. It's perfectly springy in my opinion, more so than all others I've tried. It's so light and refreshing. Mines even sitting in the tin over winter, I'm saving it for a nice fresh spring day.

Introducing Yourselves to Other Pipe Smokers

Wow, sounds like you got a ready made pipe club. I wonder you didn't talk to him before in the whole decade you worked there though. I've never actually met anyone who smokes a pipe. As in, those who I know who smoke a pipe I knew before and it wasn't a factor in my meeting them. It's so...

    Smaller Pipes, Moisture, Rest, Etc.

Agreed with resting/cleaning between smokes. My regular briars get a bit icky after 4/5 bowls smoked if not cleaned, I find with small pipes, I manage barely a bowl. And I'm not even a wet smoker. Fluffier the better cleaners too. If you want it smokable quickly though, stick your clean pipe in...

    New Hardcastle Pipes

Good find. I'm a big parker smoker, but I wouldn't knock a hardcastle at all. That canadian top right is a beautiful pipe, it's a shame parker doesn't do anything other than acrylic stems. I need to check ebay more.

    Command Smoking Performance at Starbucks

Foggy, I'm sorry to hear that. I must confess, despite my vitriol against pointed commented anti-smokers, my own mother is one of them. I know we British are at least as bad as you Americans, if not more so, I merely mean that it is a lot easier to ignore and scoff at such comments as said...
