Replacement for the old Half and Half

Gwynclan: Half n Half to my knowledge/limited experience has an anise topping, not a whisky/vanilla. Interesting your B&M would use that name. Seems like it would create a bit of confusion.

My First Non-Aromatic: You Decide 2012!

Thinking a little outside the box here. You could try some OTC blends like Carter Hall or Prince Albert. You can find them anywhere, and if you don't like em you wont be out much. 8)

    Smoking moldy tobacco

I don't know if its harmful or bad or tastes funny or whatever. I simply wouldn't smoke it. I usually live by the "waste not, want not" way of thinking, but im not messing with any moldy tobacco.

Day 2 of my new adventure...

Just thought id throw a random peice of advice out there concerning my own newbie experience. I started with matches, and the inevitable relights really got annoying. Once I had a proper pipe lighter (a zippo that came with a purchase from Paul here on the forums) it was far less hassle. Simply...

Just got some Cornell and Diehl Blockade Runner.

Dave, I've got about a 1/4 of a brick left of Blockade Runner. When I first got it, I was still pretty green as far as pipe smoking goes. I originally found it to be a bit strong and moderately difficult to get lit. Now, it doesn't strike me as strong at all. Its a good afternoon smoke like...

What determines a good smoking pipe?

Unfortunately, the answer to your question will vary greatly, and will probably come down to a lot of personal opinion. A lot of people prefer well-aged briar, a well drilled draft hole, chamber geometry suited to your preference, etc. And there are always exceptions to your own rules. Sometimes...

    The perfect flake pipe

A wide, shallow chamber for flakes? Wow, that's entirely opposite from most of what I've read concerning good flake pipes. I suppose it depends entirely on your preferred method of preparing the flake. Fully rubbed, I imagine, can go in just about anything. I suppose the difficulty comes in...

Why only Peterson brand featured on home page?

He's talking about the home page. When you scroll down past most of the articles, there's a smell section with a smokingpipes featured pipe. It always seems to be Peterson. Im fine with this, however. I only smoke Petersons anyway 8)

What Are You Smoking? February II

    Robert Service

What in the world? Was that last bit a personal addition :? I think some sort of explanation is in order

What Are You Smoking? February II

@grafikchaos I agree totally. There are some killer sweet notes that pop outta nowhere in Old Dublin. My reaction tends to be a confused yet very pleasing "huh!?" Love the stuff 8) My pipe smoking day so far has consisted of my ongoing break-in of my new Peterson 306 with some Irish Kelly...

Mystery Dunhills - help to ID

What's the mystery about them? Worn down markings? Unusual markings? Gotta help us help you 8) If you upload your pictures to photobucket, copy the IMG url they provide, press the IMG button above where you type your post here, paste the IMG url, then press the IMG button again. That should do it.

Opinions on Black & Mild pipe tobacco cigars?

My mother smokes two packs of these a day. Pretty sure she inhales them. They certainly smell better than the nails she used to suck down. Don't know how good they are personally. I assume they're made with some version of Middleton's pipe tobacco. I don't think you'll get many positive remarks...

What Are You Smoking? February II

Had a fairly unsatisfying smoke on the way to work. Captain Black in one of my cobs. I don't know if its the blend, the cob, or both. I always think I want this, but it ends up being a poor experience. Maybe im just a baccy/pipe snob now 8O

    Mr. Snuff and St. Bruno

I've only made one order from them, everything went smooth. Took about 9 business days to reach me on the US east coast. I only ordered a few tins of snuff so I used the cheapest shipping option without tracking. Still no problems. They do sell english OTCs which we can't get in the US. Prices...

What Are You Smoking? February II

Began the morning with some McClelland Navy Cavendish in my Peterson 03. My first positive experience utilizing roll and stuff with a flake tobacco.

Advice on my new pipe (and potentially PAD)

The Peterson Donegal (rustic) and Aran (matte smooth) lines are in your price range. All sorts of shapes to choose from, fishtail or p-lip if you want. If you're set on a freehand, Nording makes freehands around your budget as well. I've found cupojoes.com seems to have a wide selection on those.

What Are You Smoking? February II

Busy piping today. I had some House of Calabash "Grandfather's Own" in my Peterson 106 and this morning. Then some Old Gowrie in my Peterson 87 while driving to meet up with my father. Bought a Peterson Aran 306 at a cigar bar near where he lives. Then smoked a half bowl of "Irish Kelly", a...

    Opinions on Zippos

Since I got my Corona Old Boy over christmas, my zippo has taken a backseat. It now serves as my truck lighter. Its good for relights with the window open, and is easier to use while watching the road  I use the black can zippo fluid, and only taste it while lighting. No problems or...
