November, 2011 - What are you Smoking? II

Old Gowrie in my Peterson Donegal 80s. Just got this pipe a couple days ago and its an absolute dream to smoke. And im beginning to understand when people say certain pipes "like" certain blends. Im getting so much good flavor out of this Old Gowrie tonight. Pipe zen moment in progress? Maybe 8)

    Broken Cake

An estate I got from ebay had this issue. There was a small "crater" in the cake and I just reamed it smooth. It really didn't take much effort.

    Holy Smokes! I'm a member!

I hit 100 a few days ago, I kept wondering why my name was showing up yellow/orange instead of green lol then it dawned on me 8)

    Crumble Cake Question

I gotta say, in my (very) short piping career I initially spent too much time concerned about how I was preparing the tobacco. I scoured youtube and these forums making sure I was doing it "right". Then I realized, as long as I can make it fit in the bowl, light it, and keep it lit im doing at...

I'm Smoking Glue In My Pipe.

Of the three cobs I own, none of them took more than 3 smokes to be rid of the nasty bottom-of-the-bowl taste. I don't inhale so im not terribly concerned about the glue. And if its true that its vegetable based, I certainly don't mind. Cobs are easy going, tough, and my designated knock-around...

    Crumble Cake Question

Exactly how I did it. I believe there's a video on youtube about this that pipesmagazine made. As far as I know, just rip some off, crumble it up and pack. 8)

Peterson System - Does Shape Matter?

Looking at the diagram, it seems the straight ones still have a bit of a moisture trap. It just doesn't seem to have gravity on its side. It'd be nice to hear from anyone with a straight system pipe what they're like.

List Your Favorite Types of Tobaccos

    1. Virginias. Some are very mild, some full flavor, some sweet, some earthy. Lots of complexity and widely available. They're just good for any time of day for me. 2. Va/Per. It's nice to spice things up about every third smoke for me. The perique gives my beloved virginias an interesting friend...

    A couple of crazy pipes.

I think it goes without saying, that chicken foot is definitely made for smoking other substances  I wish I had that thing back in highschool.

    Peterson pipes

Lots of praise for the bent bulldog shape in here. Can't deny it, they're just sharp lookin' 8)

    Peterson pipes

Definitely pick yourself up a Peterson if you don't have one. It's worth it to at least see what all the hooplah is about. I currently have three (Rock of Cashel 408, Donegal 106 and Emerald 87) with another in the mail (Donegal 80s) and hopefully another for Christmas  . To say I have the...

    McClelland Brindle Flake aroma??

+1 on what bigvan said. McClelland is somewhat infamous for this. You're not crazy 8)

    Your absolute worst all-time smoke

On the high nicotine subject: how 'bout those ropes gawith hoggarth does? (Or is it sam gawith? Can't remember) the brown twist is supposed to be astronomical in nicotine

    Pipe and Cigar bans

In this bar we're of the cigarette? What an odd thing to say. I sort of imagine, knights in the dark ages, with tunics over their chainmail emblazoned with a stylized cigarette descending from the clouds. "Sir, you have entered the land of the cigarette, bring not cigars unto our land" 8)
