    House of Calabash-Wild Rose

Last night I attended the West Georgia Pipe Club, and we were able to sample several of Steven Books' blends. He was generous enough to send several samples of his Wild Rose, Young Master, Grandfather's Own and For Meerschaums only blends. Im going to talk about Wild Rose here. Wild Rose was the...

December 2011 - What Are You Smoking?

Tried several of Steven Books' House of Calabash blends at the pipe club tonight. They were: Grandfather's Own, Young Master, White Rose and "For Meerschaums Only". All in my Peterson 80s. I particularly liked White Rose and For Meers. They were all of excellent quality and worth a try for...

    OTC Tryouts-Half n Half

Thanks for the explanation on "bright" tobaccos there Kevin. I was a bit confused when I read that on the pouch :?

When does a bowl interior require repair?

Just looks like uneven, pitted-looking cake. Ream it smooth if you want, or leave it alone. No repairs necessary in my opinion.

December 2011 - What Are You Smoking?

University Flake in my Peterson 80s.

    Used pipe buying tips (wanted)

Had one like this a few weeks ago. With very little restorative effort it turned out to be an excellent pipe. When I first got it though, it smelled like an 80 year old woman had been rubbing it all over herself. Ugh.

    Oil Cured Peterson?

I'm in agreement with nemrod, strange. Like a sandblasted Rosslare or something. I haven't seen these anywhere else. Are they current production, or new old stock? I'm a novice Peterson nut, never seen/heard of these :? The mark on the bottom only says Peterson's (over) Dublin. No mention of...

    C&D Blockade Runner

I didn't want to make another thread about this blend so I dug up the one I made when I first got it. I had maybe three bowls or so and set this blend aside for about a month (judging by these posting dates). I knew this blend was good, and it was complex, but I was too new to piping that I...

December 2011 - What Are You Smoking?

Starting the day off with a bowl of C&D Blockade Runner in my Peterson Emerald 87. About half way through and this blend is beginning to make a lot of sense to me. Good stuff 8)

    OTC Tryouts-Half n Half

Your welcome spyder71. I thought about going back and doing reviews for CBW and CH since I still have some on hand 8) As an addition, regarding HnH, im about 1/3 through my pouch so far. Mostly just smoking while im driving, or having a quick smoke at work, and i'm noticing the anise casing less...

    G. L. Pease Cumberland

Mr. Pease's blends receive a lot of attention in the pipe community. Rightfully so, according to word-of-mouth and enough positive written reviews to choke an elephant. However, a blend I haven't noticed much mention of is Cumberland. This is the second blend I've had the pleasure to light up...

    Top Three Favorite Baccy List

I don't feel like i've tried enough blends to give a totally accurate answer. However, currently: 1. Rattray's Old Gowrie 2. Peterson University Flake 3. Carter Hall

    OTC Tryouts-Half n Half

Thanks for the positive responses so far guys! Im very curious now about what's different about the tub version. I can't recall if they had tubs at the grocery store, but im sure it wouldn't take a lot of effort to locate one. @coalsmoke Don't get me wrong, the smell of CBW is why I started...

    OTC Tryouts-Half n Half

I'm slowly making my way around to the various common "drug store" or "over the counter" blends. So far i've gotten around the Captain Black White pouch and Carter Hall. I'm not too fond of CBW, but Carter Hall has been an excellent early morning go-to. After work today I went grocery shopping...

Loosing My Voice - Hot Toddy Recipe?!?

+1000 to baronsamedi for that homemade Drambuie recipe! Trying that tonight for sure 8) As far as hot toddy recipes go, there are tons of variations and all the ones listed here are good to go. All you really need is honey, lemon, your spirit of choice and some type of hot non-alcoholic liquid...
